Where to go for 2 months?

Postby nyrb » Sat 04 Dec, 2010 12:45 am

Greetings!

im heading to tassie with the car from melbounre with a friend. we are planing on spending a good amount of time over there (2-3 months) and spend as much time outdoors as possible.

Whilst my friend and I will do some hikes and stuff we are really looking for a quiet, chill spot(s) to sort of base ourselves.
Any suggestions for places that are by a river, are secluded, not too far away from the car (maybe an hour or 2 walk) so we can carry stuff like fly rods and luxury items :)
our trip is a long one so would like to spend a week or 2 at the same place if it were possible (and cheaper.. am on a bit of a dirtbag budget), maybe even a few day walks too

also, I am a rock climber too and i heard of some bouldering at Bluff River Gorge but I cant find much information on any trails there.

apart from the we do hope to do a few overnight hikes but are fairly unequipped (bulky tent ect,,) but your site is resource enough for me to find some good hikes I think.

thanks for all the info ive got from this site so far!
very excited about this trip! will be my first time to tassie :D

wow that is a fantastic website! almost regret buying the "Climb Tasmania" guidebook for nearly $70.

thanks :) any ideas on a quiet fishing hole for an extended stay?

I will add that my friend and I are very conscientious campers and care deeply for the environment, we would always leave a campsite the same way we found it. We are also aware of, and will acquire the appropriate fishing licences. - and we not in a 4wd.

I would do Fraser Island and explore the Northern part where there no one goes.

Fraser sounds very exciting to me but wouldn't you want a 4wd there? I think nyrb is already set on tassie and probally booked tickets already. I lived in Scottsdale for 6 months and don't remember much climbing nor fishing opportunities around the NE except from the beach.

Retirees from my fishing club know some great spots for fishing without hiking too far but they're generally pretty anal about sharing their info to non club members. Pm me if you have a gps and I can try get some coordinates for you.

fraser island eh? well im already in tassie, trying to get a new tyre in Smithton in the north east (brutal introduction to tassie!)
so far ive dropped the line in around Stoney Point, and when the cars fixed will head further down the western cost to Arthur river. but sadly limited to ocean fishing until we can raise the funds for an inland licence..
Thanks fror that free camping website, that will come in handy.
