Bastion Bluff

Is there a marked track up Bastion Bluff at all? If so is it best to walk in on the Meander Falls track or Split rock track?

I was up there last winter actually and didn't walk up either of those tracks, although I'm sure you can.
My brother and I walked up the Stone Hut track and then followed the track onwards to the Dell and then up a rough track over a scree slope onto the Ironstone Mt plataeu. From there you can follow the ridge to Bastion bluff.
It's certainly not a defined track and you will need to search for orange markers and cairns, but it's a great walk.

I made a gpx file of the route with my phone when I did it, so I've attached that. It only marks the route from the stone hut to the plateau, but it will give you an idea of where the track goes.

From the walk description I used, you reach the start of the walk by taking a right 500m before the Meander Picnic ground (but after the bridge) and driving up Quarry road as far as you can.

Cheers for the reply. Better just make sure I've actually got the correct peak in mind. This is taken from Meander Falls

Hi crum, yeah that's Meander Crag you're after there. You should just make it a circuit and walk both split rock and meander falls tracks.

Bastion bluff is about 1km further to the left above the plateau ridge

We walked/climbed Bastion Bluff towards the end of 2010.
The track we followed was into Stone Hut and onto The Dell.
There are some sections of this track that are abit hard to follow.
The last section of track into The Dell is easy to follow with lots of ribbon and rock cairns.
If I remember we walked in and out in about 6 - 7 hours at a very comfortable pace.
If you search the discussion on The Dell there are some photos of the scree you climb on your way up Bastion Bluff
It is a great day's walk. We hope you enjoy it :D

I thought I might confirm that after checking the track you plotted with the gps. Looks like it should be a fairly easy trek up the one in my pic. Might be easier from the western side by the looks of it. The views should be quite good too

I came back from Bastion today.
Started out going up Split Rock on Meander Falls walk, got to a lookout over an open boulder scree and could see a crag in the cliff of Bastion, so we thought, why not! Got to the plateau and could see the true summit, decided to hoik it over there and met a lovely group at the summit, from the Launceston Ramblers (walking group), they came up from the Dell track.
We returned to the Meander circuit via our same route, visited falls, returned to car at Meander Falls carpark, 9.5 hours including rests and photos...

As we were on our way back to the chute in the cliff that we climbed, we passed another chute, looked like it might have been a bit easuer, and there was a cairn at the top. It faces pretty much directly towards Meander Dam.
While our route was possible, I wouldn't recommend the way we went, lots of loose rock and quite steep.

Hi Tasadam - glad you made it back safely..... I was one of the group you meet at Bastion... we actually went up Syd's track not the Dell Track.... Syd's track can be accessed via Westrope Road but caution is needed with the bridge on that road due to flood damage and the road leading from Westrope to the start of the track is definitley 4WD only... our walk that day was 7 hours and not very difficult.... wonderful place to be? Also have since managed to check out your photos - absolutely stunning!

Yes, I knew Dell Track wasn't right and I meant to come back and fix it after cross referencing, but other things took priority and I forgot.
I still intend checking the map to see where you came from.
Wasn't it a great day for being there !!

Any day out in the great outdoors is great! Maybe we will cross tracks again soon. Take care and enjoy!
