Sad news this morning about the death of a bushwalker, apparently of natural causes, while walking in the Western Arthurs. A Tasmania Police media release is pasted below, or go here http://www.tasmanianairrescuetrust.org/sites/all/files/tart/media-releases/western_arthur_range_medivac.doc. No names - but if he's a local, chances are someone here might know more,

cheers

Peter

At about 1:40pm on Tuesday 22/2/11 the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter was tasked to attend the Western Arthur Range in relation to an elderly male bushwalker suffering from a medical condition. Due to low cloud the helicopter was unable to fly directly to the location and subsequently a Police Air Crewman and an Intensive Care Paramedic walked for 2 hours before reaching the man and his family companions. Unfortunately the man was deceased upon arrival of the Police Officer and Paramedic.

The helicopter eventually flew the deceased male and his family from the Western Arthur Range to Hobart on 23/2/11. It is believed at this early stage that the man died of natural causes.

Very distressing news, there is a small article in today's Mercury also.
Thoughts and best wishes to his family members - I hope they are bearing up as well as possible.

I came across a group of older men walking into the Western Arthurs on Monday, very sad news. Thoughts and prayers with his family.

That is awful news.
Very sorry to hear about this and condolences to the family.

Heard the helicopter fly over a few times in that period (during poor weather) and thought (but hoped not) something was going on.

This family will be in my prayers, I would say they were doing something they absolutely loved.
