Freycinet National Park (multiple images)

Just finished a 3 day walk at Freycinet NP, which was organised here (quite a flea circus ;-) ): http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=594 "Freycinet this weekend [was: Mt Olympus on Anzac Weekend?]"

Not sure whether I'm in the right spot on the forum for a trip report, the ever-watchful admins will probably have their say if need be. Also did a quick search of the forum, nothing too meaningful turned up as a Freycinet thread ... so maybe this could become it?

Anyway, back to the trip ...

Nik rang in sick, so it was me, Jill & Pam from down south.

Smoke haze all the way while driving there, less smoke at Freycinet, Tassie wasn't visible anymore from there though.

Visitor center advised that there's no water at all in the park, they couldn't even say for sure that Cooks Beach hut tanks had water. As it turned out there was more water than I expected, most of the 'usual' creeks trickling nicely enuf, tanks at Cooks Beach pretty full I'm told (didn't see it myself).

We base camped at Hazard's beach camp. On day 2 walked up Mt Freycinet (off-track from Hazards), then back to camp via Cooks. Days 1&3 to&from Hazards off-track via 2 different routes through the lagoon. Also had a bit of a look at the new track sections from the car park to the Wineglass Bay lookout (currently under construction) ... they'll make a huge change to the visitor experience when open ... better graded, up & down traffic separated, better views, better starting point.

Highlights of the walk included soaring wedgetails, plenty black cockies, the biggest/meanest/most colourful leech I've ever seen, very nice weather, ... ... no pics yet coz I didn't take a camera. If Jill & Pam send me some good ones I'll put them up here.

Sounds like a good trip. I'm so disappointed I had to drop out at the last minute. Just as well I did though... I spend 90% of the long weekend in bed with the actual real flu, it turns out.

How does the walk up Mt Freycinet compare with the walk up Mt Amos (apart from not following a track)?

Got some pics from Pam & Jill.

Pam not so happy with her camera.

But before I get started with a few of our pics, should link to tas-man's top pic again (hard to beat that shot, first seen at http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=594) ...

And now let's see whether I have any luck with uploading to the forum ... testing ... testing ...

... ahhh ... ok ... can add up to 3 ...

A bit more of a scramble in parts, and the route isn't always obvious.

... aaand a few more pics if I can ...

... got 2 done, afternoon break is over, 2 more later ...

Nice pics! (Note that I've edited the topic title to comply with forum rules for the sake of people on slow internet connections.)

You just had to put the leech photo in, didn't you?

Awesome stuff- I'm going there more the first time for something more than a casual visit this Easter You've whetted my appetite!
