Gordonvale: Some Old Photos

I managed to find and scan some pictures of Gordonvale circa 1985. It was my first trip there, but in writing about it recently on my blog (starts here) http://auntyscuttle.blogspot.com/2011/03/returning-to-rhona-1.html I'd forgotten that some buildings were actually still standing.

That's me on the far right of the group shot (red checked shirt and oh-so-fashionable tam-o-shanter!), and next to me is the legendary Ray Spedding (who passed away just a couple of months back). Ah the memories ....

cheers

I have scanned a few slides of trips I took through Gordonvale, one in 1970 and others in 1974. At that time the buildings were still standing and could even be slept in. There were the remains of the main homestead, a bakery and other outbuildings. The old post and rail fences were still there but in a bit of disrepair. Not sure if they're still there. The last time I went through, probably in the 1990s, there was a rhododendron with a small purple flower and some of our party took cuttings to try to nstrike. I never did hear how they went.
The quality of the slides is fairly poor, as I could not afford a good camera in those days, but are still of historical interest.

Thanks gents, keep them coming and more importantly, keep the images safe!

I have seeen quite a few old photographs of Ernie Bond and Gordonvale. I will try to round up their URLs. Here is a 1964 photograph on the Kosciuszko huts website ..

Gives a slightly better idea of the scale of Ernie's 'settlement'.

This needs a link to one of your previous posts. http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6252&p=76620&hilit=gordonvale#p76620

Chris Wisbey (ABC Radio fame) had something about this 6-8 weeks back on Sunday morning. I can't find anything on ABC site now. Might have taken it off?

Good stuff, and a good reminder of things we aren't able to, or can't do now due to restrictions etc of this current age we live in. Not saying thats bad, just an era now long gone.
