petrol

Postby doogs » Sun 10 Jul, 2011 2:57 pm

I know a lot of people are reliant on the Campbell Town petrol station for fuel, so I just thought I'd let you all know for the time being they will be closing at 7pm.
If anyone else knows the times for other places such as Deloraine or Dover etc.

Sheffield up the NW is open 24/7 ....United unmanned...so card only of course...also about the cheapest up this way.
Other areas and times can be found at
http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/distr ... eState=TAS
I'm unsure why Sheffield hasn't made it on this list???

Swansea closes at 6, as does Bicheno I believe, so they are the last 2 before St Helens I guess. Not sure if there is any 24 hours there either.

So, why has no one opened a 24 hour super servo @ Campbell Town yet?
I managed to limp home on the sniff of an oily rag once from Coles Bay to Brighton (the next available 24 hour servo).
Being that CT is the main pit stop for most (including truckers) it's suprising no one has jumped on this possible enterprise...

There is one that has planning permission a long with a McProcessedfoods, it is supposed to be open by the end of the year. I guess the 7pm closure is in force until then.

I don't get it! Why isn't every single servo 24 hour? Just put a friggin' card machine next to the pump! In most other developed countries in the world this has been done decades ago. And in all the not so developed countries they are all open/staffed anyway

I don't get it!

Ah but that what make Tasmania what it is.
A land of oddities that make our World heritage status so valuable.

Seriously I agree.
I would add they do want to be serviced, manned whatever you want to call it sometime during the daylight hours.
The Sheffield one is never manned and it at times looks like it.

Dirty smelly dieselly pumps aren't the best to fill up from.
My experience not from Sheffield but from another one owned by a big food chain.

Ah, if it was only Tas. AFAIK it's the same on the Big island.

Absolutely, they should be serviced! But in most "other" places the servos are often like here, shop/workshop etc etc and pumps. If you need anything more than fuel you park (not in the petrol que though  ) but if you just want to fill up you stop, swipe your card, fill up, get a receipt from the machine and you drive off. 24 hours. How difficult can it be :?: No need to hold up the que while someone sloooowly walks up to the counter, oh, he forgot something in the car, back, ok start towards the counter again, wait in another que, wait while the person behind the counter take that phone call, pay, slooowly walking back to their car, wait a while for who-knows-what  and then, slooowly drive away.

Not sure about Queenstown....but Zeehan has a 24/7 service.

Also...the last time I went past...it looks like Scottsdale has a 24/7 United....didn't call in so can't confirm....but certainly cheap prices.

I've nearly been caught out at Maydena before with the 'adventure hub' shutting at 4.50 and not 5.00 as is advertised. Managed to get the attention of a worker who turned the pump on amid much  of eyes.

This is another site that should have 24hr facilities for sure.

Top repeat what I've already said elsewhere: this is why they invented jerrycans.
How hard is it to make sure you have enough fuel before you leave, and then carry a bit spare just in case? It's no different to taking enough food on a bushwalk.
