Hi everyone

I am looking at purchasing a gps capable of uploading maps on to it

Any suggestion on models make and/ or suppliers ( i live on hobart but do shop online)

I'd check out the Garmin 62CsX. I have the model below and it is pretty bombproof. It is easy to use, and you can upload most maps onto it.

I just got myself a 62S , I am still learning to use it, I have just worked out how to put custom maps into it, much better than Garmin Maps.

If I had the money I probably got one of these, Montana-650t

Got me a Garmin 60CSx , great coverage , Johnson Marine at the waterfront have a good range of GPS , great service as well

I have the Garmin eTrex Vista HCx and absolutely love it. It is small but has very clear maps (same as the Tasmap 1:25000 series) and the battery lasts 22 hours. It is also waterproof. I wouldn't have anything else (except on my bike were I have the Garmin Edge!!)

Yes I agree this is a good GPS (I have been using one for past 3 years) but 3x important things!

1. The maps available for it are not comparable to Tasmap 1:25000, they may look alright but experience has shown me MASSIVE discrepancy.
having said that for my price bracket it beats anything else.

2. 22 Hours with lithium battery and good reception (certain types of rainforest kill reception on this when the Garmin models that have the stubby little antenna still work)

3. Definitely not waterproof but will work again once dried out!
