i am planning to go there soon, start at farmhouse ck. mt. bobs etc. end up at cockle creek.whats it like going down the salisbury river...is it as scrubby and miserable as people say it is...?

Yep friend of ours has been there.. he's done alooot of off track walking, that still rates as one of his hardest.....

I went over Mt Bobs to Vanishing Falls about 18 years ago. It is a significant undertaking with long hard days.One 12 hour day did result in 1-1/2 kilometres of forward progress. From memory the next day was only marginally better. It takes a few days to cross the Knobs which is closed primeval scrub.If you have extensive off track experience, navigational skills and remote area first aid skills it is a great adventure.If you can't look at a map and interpret what is likely to be there (for it is) then this may not be the place to go.Water is an issue so you need to know how to source water on the Knobs.One of the most satisfying parts of undertaking this sort of adventure is the planning and sorting. It certainly was a memorable trip. Happy to share what I know Blackbilly if you care to contact me.

I did the trip in 95/96 over bobs to the Salisbury and then down to New River Lagoon & out along the south coast track.
2 - 2.5 days along the knobs to the Salisbury, average speed 200m/hr for the two days. I think the really slow sections were more like 50-70m/hr
All up 11 days/10 nights on the "track".

Not the worst scrub I've had in Tas, but it came close in a few parts

I agree with Bucks comments. It's a very memorable trip but definitely not for the feint hearted, it's not the sort of trip to do as your first scrub outing. I can't stress enough that you need to be VERY comfortable and capable with hard, remote, off track walking. You're a long way from anywhere if things go pear-shaped. .

OK. I now have a target. To get to the falls. I may never make it but if I don't have plans I'll never get anywhere......

There aren't enough superlatives in the language to really express oneself in regard to the bowl of the falls is there!

Looks like a unique place, in the other one I saw the sink hole looked full of water though. Can't say I would ever feel a compulsion to try it though, when theres so many more enjoyable walks in our little state.
