Get yourself a "60 Great Short Walks" booklet to start you off, once you start you will meet people and find things you want to do. You can usually find them at information centres and parks visitors centres.
But if you can't find one...
*Meander Falls
*Quamby Bluff
*Mt. Roland
*Stacks Bluff
*Winterbrook Falls
*Liffey falls
*Lake Nameless
etc.

You need to get a parks pass you can buy them online but just as easy to get one at a parks centre or visitors centre. Dont get a day pass get the backpacker pass thats 30$ for 2 months. Allso i reccomend getting the 60 great short walks brochure. Allso the parks tas website has all you need. Good luck walking with your wife. Avoid any walks out of your leagues like the plague cause youll turn on eachother and by time you get to the end may be single. Theres a mt sorrow in the daintree rainforst wow did that teach me a lesson.

St Valentines Peak (near Hampshire) is a good 1/2 day walk. Track is very overgrown in places - definitely gaiters or long pants.
Mt Gnomon is a good short walk.
Rocky Cape National Park has a couple of 3-hour walks, also Narawntapu NP has a nice easy 3-hour one with the option of walking along the beach for a while.

I have done Mount Arthur, Stacks Bluff and Mount Victoria in recent months and would recommend them all. Looking forward to the 'Triple Top' (Mount Claude, Mount Vandyke and Mount Roland) in a couple of weeks.
Hardy and Elson's books are a good reference point and there is one called '50 Family Walks Around Launceston & Northeast Tasmania'.

The Hardy and Elson book is a very good starting point as few of the walks are very extreme (unless you try the high altitude ones in a blizzard of course).
My Arthur near Lilydale is a good half day walk. Projection Bluff is relatively short with good views. Higgs Track to Lady Lake Hut (or as far as you want to go) can easily be done in half a day. These three all have fairly substantial ascents. Many of the walks in the Meander area are good, but several of the bridges accessing them are washed out, so unless you have a 4wd of mountainbike it will be a 2 to 4km walk each way from where you can park to the start of the walk. Parsons Track to Haberles Hut (near Caveside) is worth a visit too.
