Western Arthur Range - Visitor stats

Postby DaveNoble » Sun 29 Jan, 2012 7:32 pm

Spending a bit of time waiting for a bus at Scotts Peak Dam allowed me to make some notes from the intentions book at the start of the Port Davey Track. I have analysed some of the data on my blog at -

I was about to do a search or post a thread asking about shoulder season W Arthurs.
Anyone got any figures for Jan Feb Mar, and when the weather turns to definitely nasty and horizontal white stuff?
Figure it is only going to get busier and busier.
Im not yet brave enough to try the overland.

I spent a while wondering this myself, came to the conclusion he meant the annoying amount of people met when on the OT.
Nothing to see here.

I have found the overland reasonably quiet in the off season especially in Winter :)

(OLT isn't crowded, where else are you not going to pass anyone and be guaranteed a hut or campsite (if desired...)? In fact, timed right, you could encounter very few people. It is mentioned all the time but i find the assumption a bit strange, do people live alone in remote bush like hermits?? :) )

Good work Dave, would be handy to get the other months. Isn't looking like a Huge number is it.. I'd imagine most WA would just be done as a single walk out and back eh?
