Precipitous Bluff log book down a crack

Postby msw » Thu 16 Feb, 2012 2:32 pm

I just came back from the Moonlight Ridge/Sth Coast track on 15/2/12. I found that the PB log book is down a crack in the second-highest pile of rocks a couple of metres from the summit. It is about 2m down a narrow wedge between rocks and the metal box is upside-down. There are a few sticks around it where someone has tried to get it out.

If someone was there with 2 walking poles, they may be able use them like chopsticks and lift it up.

Coming down PB to Cavern Camp, there are a lot of big eucalypts down in the bottom half of the descent - especially as the ridge gets very narrow near the bottom. I added some orange tapes and gave the rest of my tape roll to a group I met at the boat crossing who were heading up & back as a side trip.

Matt.

Sorry I didn't read this before doing the same trip (18-27 Feb 2012), msw. We looked for the logbook, not knowing it was down a crack, and didn't find it (and we had a few walking poles, too).

At least, I can report on the descent from PB to Cavern Camp - I wouldn't say Blind Freddie could follow the taped track now, but it is extensively marked. It made our task easier in the 100kph wind (at the top) and rain/drizzle/mist (almost all the way down).

The descent from PB is well marked with tape of various colours (Feb 2012)

Great walk - PB is stunning - pity about the rubbish (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9108) particularly at campsites along the Sth Coast Track.

Anyone in your group, msw, lose a blue/white Uni Games water bottle?

Just back from PB too. No trouble following the track from the lagoon but thought the log book must have been history. 4 parties at cavern camp one night!

*sigh*

If you had looked a little longer and clearer at the small pile of rocks on the edge of the crack that old book is down, you would have noticed a nice shiny new metal box with a nice shiny new(er) log book. I did.
The old book has been down that crack for some time, because the new book's been there a little while.
