Highest campspots in Tasmania.

Postby iaindtiler » Fri 13 Apr, 2012 6:26 pm

Having recently camped up by Un-named tarn (Mt Weld), i was curious as to what would be Tasamania's highest camping spot? And by that i mean an area to pitch the tent properly. Nothing better than the high altitute sunrises / sunsets. Regards Iain.

Tarn near Ossa's summit must rank as one of the highest. Although I have never camped there it would be a good spot on a still night.

I also think that parks do not want people camping up there, as lovely as it might be. Mt Olympus would have to be one of the nicest I've camped at. A tarn near the top of the Guardians also looks very inviting.

Eldon peak was pretty high.
Mt Massif also would have been over 1500m.
Nothing to see here.

You could camp close to the summit of Stacks Bluff, I don't know if you'd want to lug your gear up what is a day walk but it would be over 1500m. Lake Youl on the Ben Lomond plateau is also high with a nice little beach :)

MJD , that does look special, tho no doubt the conditions would need to be good. The Ben Lomond plateau would be nice too.

I was lucky on Ossa - it was a June long weekend!

Another high one is near the Ducane Range high point.

The bowl on top of Mt Massif would have to be up there :)

I had bad weather when I was at the Mt Massif Bowl but the sun eventually dropped under the cloud for a brief moment and I could see why people love it so much. A pretty special place that has that great feeling of wilderness and isolation. My tent is to the right of centre.
