Bird encounters

This Shrike has been hanging about, or more correctly clanging about, for the past week or so.

He has become so used to us that we can be very close to him inside and even outside as he continues to wow us with his melody and his pecking.

He clings to the centre bar in the window and then watches for grubs and other yumyums.
Fascinating to watch so close as he grabs one and downs it.
Sure makes a mess of the windows but what the heck.

One day we had robins, shrike, fantails, white eyes and a honey eater all within space of a few hours.

And today we see our bird has another of the same variety, but it's not as game as the one in the photo.
We watch and wait with interest.

I've got a local New Holland Honeyeater that attacks my window while I work and actually flew into my leg one day as I was walking to the office, just looked at me for 5 seconds holding onto my trousers and then retreated to his/her nest. I'm sure he's my buddy, he/she has hung around for 2years now :)

I am fortunate to have Superb Fairy Wrens who nest in a Bottle Brush,Silvereyes and Eastern Spinebills using the Bird Bath ,Little Wattle Birds(noisy beggars who sadly have usurped the place of the much quieter New Holland Honey Eaters) and a pair of Grey Butcherbirds who sing for their breakfast, lunch and tea which they share with a pair of Forest Ravens :D
All of this in an urban garden not a bush block I am only around 60 metres from a greenbelt so I also get regular visits from Bandicoots had a Pigmy Possum nesting this year, plenty of Ringtail and Brush Possums and the occasional Wallaby, also get overflown by Swift Parrots who do not migrate in Winter and a flock of Yellow -tailed Black-Cockatoos who have a feed in a neighbors trees.
Got to love this Island :) especially if you plant Native trees and shrubs to attract birds :D
