I've been enjoying this blog/trip report from a lad who went solo, off the beaten track in the Gates of the Arctic NP, the most inaccessible and remote park the US has.
http://nerdventurer.blogspot.com/Fantastic scenery, and a good writing style. Make me wonder what the Australian equivalent would be. The Gibson for remoteness, I guess, or Cape York.

Excellent trip report. I look forward to reading the rest of it. I was particularly struck by this quote:
"But if you judge safety to be the paramount consideration in life you should never, under any circumstance, go on long hikes alone. Don't take short hikes either--or, for that matter, go anywhere alone. And avoid at all costs such foolhardy activities as driving, falling in love, or inhaling air that is almost certainly riddled with deadly germs."
-- Fletcher & Rawlins, The Complete Walker IV
It almost makes one book a ticket to Alaska.
