Rifugio Bertone? Or is that possibly where you are?

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Its a long set of joining valleys John - and Bertone is closer to the border of Italy and Switzerland.
This is looking up the other way towards the Italy / France border.
We were 3 days walking through this Italian portion, and Bertone was our stay on the last night before going on to Switzerland. We passed the refuge in view at lunchtime on the first day.

Thanks for the clues eggs. I now believe this is looking towards the Rifugio Elisabetta Soldini beneath the Col de la Seigne and the towering Pyramides Calcaires.

We might be just playing ping pong John.
Trying to Narrow it down. Love the basalt cap, but the stones certainly look yellow.

It seems that way eggs. Your cryptic answer is correct - Yellowstone River at a constriction called "The Narrows". I'm pretty sure this is technically part of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. This spot is between Tower Fall and Tower Junction. It was a most impressive sight, which I had to photograph, and you've accurately pointed out the interesting geology (the columns are also basalt apparently).

No idea again. John and eggs, you may be the only ones posting and replying but I am enjoying the photos and learning about places I haven't visited so please keep ping ponging.

OK then, to ping pong again (maybe) - eggs I think these interesting sea arches are at Wharariki Beach near the Golden Bay region of the NW part of the south island. I really do need to get over there.

Correct John. I apologise for posting it again. I put it up last Feb as well. :(
I was determined to see the Archway Islands when we were there. Magical.

No problem eggs, I didn't recall seeing it and I don't think it's against the rules (some places are worth revisiting :)).
Apologies from me for delay, had issues with internet connection at home. Should be OK to post something tonight - if someone else wants to go please feel free to jump in.

The desolate 10,023 feet ASL skywatching summit up ahead is not on the US mainland.

Mauna Kea on the Big Island in Hawaii, the cluster of observatories from all the different institutions? Can't remember if that's also a volcano mound. Many years ago, B&Bed in a nearby village and drove past it but never got there.

Back in your court then eggs :). Yes another location on the mighty Haleakala, which seems to occupy most of East Maui. This time from the circuit trail that leaves from the visitor centre, looking up at the summit peak (Puʻu ʻUlaʻula - Red Hill/Peak) and the nearby observatory.

With that clue I looked at my photos of the waterfall at Arthurs Pass and they are very similar to yours. Is that it?

And using wayno's clue, it's known as Devil's Punchbowl Waterfall. At first I thought wayno was being more literal than cryptic....

It was in Arthurs Pass - but there are a few waterfalls there - so I shall pass the baton to Tyreless.
It is indeed the Devils Punchbowl Falls.
