Very tough tyreless.
Can we narrow it to the Greek Isles?

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Not in Greece. It's a ferry stop between Split and Dubrovnik.

Well - I had not even noticed the islands off Croatia.

The town is Korcula on the island of Korcula?

Yes, Korcula it is. A fantastic place - very beautiful with a wonderful old town centre. Over to you, eggs.

Nice.

Back to NZ - name the nearby town - bonus for precision on my location

Queenstown NZ - looking across Lake Wakitipu toward Cecil Peak from Jack's Point or Kelvin Heights. Or maybe Ben Lomond.

So that would actually be Kelvin Heights. Jacks Point would be behind with the Remarkables in the background.
My guess is the hump to the extreme right would be the subject of the mystery pic.

All - Not near Queenstown.
I am on a track at the top of a low peak near a major town

Does Wanaka count as "not near Queenstown"?

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Fri 29 Jan, 2016 12:09 pm

Yep - Wanaka is definitely not near Queenstown....
And given I was only after the town, Wanaka is just off to the left side and we had strolled up Mt Iron for sunrise

OK, I don't have my photos here at the office so I'll post a new one tonight when I get home. If anyone feels like it they can jump in with a photo in the meantime....

[Edited to add - Wanaka is one of my favourite places]

Wild guess but I'll say this is a'a lava in or near the town of Pahoa on the Big Island of Hawaii resulting from eruption/s of Kilauea.
If I'm correct anyone can go next, I'll be offline for the next 10 days cruising the pacific. Maybe I'll get some photos to post :).

Yes, on what used to be the main coastal road (route 130) which now ends abruptly in a lunar landscape lava field dotted with abandoned buildings. Quite surreal.

As johnw is away anyone can go next.

Well it really is quiet here, I've been away for nearly 2 weeks and looks like it's still my turn!
Thanks Tyreless. I didn't drive down that particular stretch of road but did pass the turnoff (while getting lost around Hilo ). Saw similar sights around the west coast area where we were staying.

Here is a really old photo from the UK I scanned in and attempted to fix. Should be easy I think - name the water body and the structure:

There are some big chunks of ice there that come from the glacier with the same name as this lake. The glacier used to stop about here but now stops about 7 km up the lake.

Hooker Lake

This is the bigger lake to the east of Hooker Lake.

Ah yes - although the description would be similar, I should have realised that 7km would be too far for the Hooker.

So this would be Tasman Lake.

That's right. Tasman Lake it is.

No, not in Europe at all.

It's the name of the building I'm after, but kudos if you can name the peaks.

I presume the Himalayas, but you are supposed to start with the country / area when you put the photo up.
