OK. I'm confusing myself.
Is that Lake Chalice down there? The shape sort of fits, but I can't pick the angle.

I can't figure out which direction you'd be facing though, from either my (very vague) memory of the views, nor from the map. But I'll make that My guess, anyhow: The summit of Mt Rogoona.

I'm going to say no for that answer, yes, Mount Rogoona, but not exactly correct

Son of a Beach wrote:PS. Actually, another look at theLIST, and I think you're looking north-east from the top of Mt Rogoona, with Lake Bill at the left, Lake Louisa to it's right, and Lake Poe the little one in front of that. Lake Myrtle would be just out of view to the left, with the Northern end of it obscured by the rounded bald-rock hill.

You've got it there Nik (in regards to the view), not on the summit of Rogoona though......can anyone be more precise?

I can see now... Lake Poa.
So you're not on Rogoona summit but a fair bit further north, also not as high.
Yet the image shows you are still hugging the western ridge of Rogoona. so I'd say you're taking a fairly direct ascent / descent to Rogoona and are somewhere between halfway and two thirds up.

This summit photo was my clue.

At the northern end of Lake Myrtle the hill has prominent lines of rock that are definable in both images.

I think that's as close as anyone could guess tasadam; we were not on the summit of Rogoona but rather on the north western face of the opposite ridge to the summit (further north). I actually cropped some of the photo which showed Lake Myrtle as it would of made it too obvious

Over to you tasadam....

I forfeit and give it to Son of a Beach if he wants it.
I was initially way off the mark.

Seems Nik is not online. So, to keep the game moving, over to the first image poster. Anyone?

Well, since it's over to anyone, I'll have another go. I got close on the last one anyhow :-) (although I was definitely wrong, in that there's no way the northern end of Lake Myrtle is obscured by anything from the summit of Rogoona... doh!).

This one might be a little more tricky, as the otherwise expansive panorama is ... well ... nearly invisible.

I may need to give some hints as time goes by.

So you didn't see much from Mt Rufus then?

Hint 2: It's not Mt Rufus, but is quite a bit further north of Mt Rufus (hint 2-and-a-half: and a tiny bit further west than Mt Rufus)

Well, the last visit I saw a lot less:
a16042.JPG
Mt Rufus

And the previous succesful climb was nine years earlier - with better weather but the images from that are slides and my memory is . . . sometimes . . . rather erratic.

I'm really just guessing here . . . up the top of Cradle, out east of the summit, and the hut in question is Scott Kilvert?

Right, that only leaves about 376 mountains, so I'll get there eventually . . .

That basically leaves Mts Emmett, Ossa, Doris, Oakleigh, and the Pelions East and West.

Where is everyone who knows this terrain when you need them?

Pelion East, looking NE?

I knew it was a silly photo to post. :-)

No, not Pelion East (or West). It's on a mountain with a fairly wide flat area on top, taken from near the top.

I don't recall a view anything like that from the top of Ossa - but then I've only been up there twice; the last time it was socked in with about 5ft viz, and the previous time it was clear blue skies all the way to Antarctica.

So I'll make that the next guess and if it isn't I give up.

My next clue was going to be "it starts with the letter 'O'". But I'd forgotten about Ossa. No, it's not Ossa. :-D

Fine, then it's Oakleigh but I gave up ten minutes ago so that answer is invalid and I'm going to bed whether anyone gets this or not and I hope it's the image I meant to put up but I don't really care either way. Grrrrrr.

Yep, Oakleigh it was. Sorry, my last photo really wasn't fair play. Maybe I should ban myself from the game for day or so. :-)

I've no idea where your photo is taken from, but it's a great shot. It's clearly at a reasonable altitude, by the vegetation.
