Getting a bit lonely...
It is definitely the pass [Emily Pass below Emily Peak] at the top of the Lake Mackenzie valley.
Probably near the Lake Mackenzie Hut - so close to the last photo.
Those mountains were in cloud for my last shot.

Yep thought I'd fill in the blanks on your last photo. Back to you

Keeping the game rolling....

Which mountain are we ascending? I've included two photos taken at the same location (one of where we came from and one of where we were going) as its a little far afield (Papua New Guinea).

Is it Mt Giluwe near Mendi?

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Neither but ribuck is closer (wrong country wayno).

Route we took (vantage point in photos) rarely sees non-locals but the mountain is not uncommon to climb...

In the absence of any knowledge of the place, I could ask if it is Mt Wilhelm?

Hmm, there's a mountain just north of Kundiawa with a shape a bit like that. Maybe that's its profile if you climb it from the north instead of the natural route from the south. I can't remember the name of the mountain though.

Yep eggs has it. Probably is the same mountain that ribuck was referring to as well.

Yeah we did the traverse via the western village of Ambullua. Amazing part of the world to explore...

You had good weather.
I have a friend who went up quite high on that one by helicopter. Not the top though.

Ha you should see the photos I've got when we summited 18 hours later (blowing a blizzard).

Is that lake one of the geothermal pools at Waiotapu? Haven't been there but remember seeing some funky colors in some photos I was looking at recently......

I've been to Waiotapu but can't remember seeing this to I'll say Orakei Korako.

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Correct -Orakei Korako - a thermal area reached by a short boat trip

I'll settle for the name of this North Atlantic island:

Looks a lot like the Azores...

Sorry icefest, not the Azores.

I found some images of islands like these called Litlmolla island in Norway. Is that it?

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

I think Tweety Bird lived on the largest of these islands.

Sorry, Graham51, it's not Litlmolla, although both Litlmolla and the Azores look like places that I would enjoy visiting for a walking holiday.

MickyB, your answer is too subtle for me to know that you have it correct. I have never been much good at cryptic crosswords. You may be correct but I need a name.

Here's another photo of the same island, looking in the opposite direction. I'm pretty sure the second photo was taken from the exact same place as the previous photo. The vegetation will certainly rule out islands like Litlmolla.

Saw a doco on St Helena recently and topography looks very similar. Only thing it's south Atlantic...........

I think MickyB was on about canaries.
But I think Tenerife in particular and near Taborno.
Is this a volcanic landscape?

Re: Game: Where-is-it? (international)

Eggs wins, it's Tenerife. Tenerife is the largest of the Canary islands, so that's what MickyB was hinting at.

Eggs is also correct about Taborno. The Roque de Taborno is the peak in the second photo.

It is a volcanic landscape. This area is quite old, but on other parts of the island there is fresh eruption from the early 1900s. I don't know any other walking destination that packs so much variety into such a small area. There are forests, canyons, ridges, lava caves, sea cliffs, new and old volcanic peaks, rock climbing areas, wildflowers, etc.

Most of the island's water supply infrastructure was built before the days of electric pumps, so there are many long tunnels through mountains and narrow water channels half way up 800m cliffs, many of which are accessible to adventurous (foolhardy?) walkers. The weather is fantastic for walking most of the year, except for the peak of summer when it's often too hot.

The topography is rugged. You can walk from sea level to the highest point (3700 metres) in one push, which took me 14h20m but others do it faster. The only downside of the island? The wilderness areas are not big enough to need overnight trips. Almost everything can be done as a day trip.

Other plus points include great food, an excellent bus network, and interesting cultural events.

Over to you, eggs!

Reminds me of Champex... which would mean you were on the tour du mont blanc?
