Re: GAME: Where Am I? Part 2

Hmm - I was trying not to win, but oh well - tasadam pushed me.

Yes I had noticed Diamond Peak and the POW range in the distance. I have not separated that range out in my list - as it is in the very remote category.
I sort of clump that whole area from the Denisons across into 1 group.

Anyway - I have not converted anymore slides yet - so this might be easy..

Gee, it's gone awfully quiet!
eggs, i'm assuming this is another shot near the west coast judging by the rock,
tho the dolerite ranges in the background may make it a little confusing.
I'm guessing somewhere along the Tyndall range again? But could be completely wrong.
Maybe some clues for others might help; I'll stay a distant spectator for a while I think.

wow - I have really thrown you.
this is a very popular spot :)
In the complaints of some - "there is a fair bit of zoom in this one" - and the trick is to imagine a rather large lake between the nearest break lines.

PS - there are 2 tracks visible in the photo as well. And West Coast Rocks are pink/purple!

must be good weather and people are out walking?

The white rock is quartzite - and this is a patch which is next to a large dolerite mountain - that a lot of people visit - even if very briefly to take a picture of it across the lake.

Sorry - it is not Mt Roland (a bit far north) - but it would be visible from Mt Roland.
It is not West Coast or Mt Field area.
It is an area dominated by dolerite - with a few of the minor peaks consisting of white quartzite.

I had not intended this one to be particularly hard - but it seems that it is.
My family had a wonderful lunch at the lakes on the ridge across the other side - amongst the quartzite rocks - on the same day this photo was taken.
It is one of my top spots in Tasmania - which is generally reached after climbing a very steep peak by way of chains. This is to the left of the photo and the track coming down from it to the lakes is visible in the photo. So is the other track next to these lakes which comes up from behind the said peak.

To get from lunch to where the photo was taken we had to travel across the face of a major peak going around a large glacial lake which lies between this spot and the far lakes. There is a great day walk around the edge of this lower lake which many of the numerous visitors to this place use. Especially if they have young kids and/or the weather is bad. On this particular day there were people canoeing on the lake - though I suspect they were not on their "honeymoon".

Hansons Peak is just off the photo to the left.
So where was the photo taken? (The answer is a rather broad designation for an area)

[You should really visit flyfisher - I know it is too popular - but it really is gorgeous - especially over on that other side where far fewer go.]

This one has been up too long.

I will give it to flyfisher.
The place was Cradle Plateau - not far along the track after crossing the river on the section towards Marions Lookout from Kitchen Hut.
The view is across Lake Dove to the Twisted lakes

All quiet on the "WE(T)stern front" this weekend - so here's an easy one to get someone new to the game to contribute an answer.

It has been quiet - I guess it may get busier tomorrow - when folk are back from the weekend.
You could be right about the wet affecting people.

It is a beautiful white quartzite rock - I remember it well. But when we were there the cloud was at eye level almost all around.
Magical and moody, but not very revealing. My distance shots were from below the cloud.

I don't know, but it reminds me of the "crossroads" at the base of Marion's Lookout.

Don't know either, too low for Marion's, maybe further west, Mt Murchison?

. . . . try further south, and look carefully at the peaks on the horizon.

Yes, it is from the track just below the top of Frenchmans Cap looking north to the peaks of the Cradle Mt NP. Cradle Mt is on the left with Barn Bluff, Pelion West, Ossa etc above the clouds.

I think so. Maybe.
In which case that could be somewhere up the top of the Rodway Range? I can't be bothered digging out maps to work angles.

That seems a bit tough.
I did get a map out - and I placed it early on the ascent over the Rodway Range. Not sure where the top of the range is - probably further north.
Not having been there - though I got close - is it above the Lions Den?
