Were you on Pelion East?
Mon 07 Sep, 2009 10:17 pm

Has been on mine for a while but that shot has definately lifted it up quite a few places
I'm with you guys. Rhona has been on my list for a while, but now I have one more reasons. I had better arrange something this summer.

Douse, anybody know if Rhona is possible as a day walk, I've heard the toilet situation is becoming desperate for campers, would like to hear see some feedback. A beautiful place, sad to pollute.

Thanks Nick
I confess - I did remember your series from that walk
http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=835&p=6214#p6214This will be a little different - but this is the crew I subjected to terrible conditions on Cradle Mtn (recently referred to)
But where were we? [I am afraid this is another digitised slide - I am yet to do a good job of these.]
As a hint - picture us arriving in Tassie in May in our own car - and we are excited to get the kids amongst some of the snow we can already see as soon as we can.
Not sure they were as keen as we were - but they did have fun with a snow/ice fight.

would it be Lake Mackenzie?
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 9:10 am
Yes that,s right. Not much ice and we were in the lake bed
Ps posting from the blackberry is working now!

When I first saw the pic, I thought the dam-wall was a hut or something.
Then the cliffs gave it away. I remember scrub-bashing up around those cliffs a couple of years back, before coming back down to the lake and realising that it was near empty anyway (and we could have walked all the way around without getting near the scrub).
Time for another pic eh?...

There is probably only one place which has that distinctive track up a high altitude rolling plateau.
Travellers (even in cars) may be more familiar though with the very high dolerite peak just out of picture to the left. (Though it was probably in cloud given the amount in this photo)

Mt Wright and Lake Rhona are quite close but not exactly the same place walkingtas!!
Rhona not really a day walk! It could be done but takes 5-6 hrs to get there and really it's such a nice place you would want to stay longer than the time would permit. Better as a 2-3 day walk!

Ive been pretty bad at this so far but may as well have another guess

Is it Mt Hayes?
Seems like Eggs throwing the word travellers in there is a clue but I just cant picture tracks like that anywhere in the Travellers range
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 2:31 pm
No - its cars that is the clue. Dominates the area - even from the road.
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 2:35 pm
Yeh was thinking Mt Anne may have been the dominating peak mentioned....

Cars that close though ah geez Barrow?
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 2:37 pm
Could it be Mount Rufus down at Lake St Clair?
Otherwise one of the other peaks along the Lyell Hwy down that way then?!
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 2:45 pm
ok, so a couple of people are pretty close... and there are a couple of ideas that are not.
I'm after the name of the plateau and/or nearby peak.
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 2:46 pm
Sorry guys - clues are meant to help not hinder.
Is it always cloudy when you guys drive to Scotts Peak?
Normally it takes your breath away when you drive out onto the flats with Anne rising on the left side.
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 2:49 pm
Eliza.
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 2:50 pm
Hey I said I thought Anne may have been the peak mentioned?????
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 2:58 pm
ok - jwalker gets it at a pinch. Sorry to be pedantic
Yes Mt Anne is just out of the picture, but I was standing just over
Mt Eliza, looking up the track over
Eliza Plateau (and you'll get to Mt Anne / Anne Circuit if you follow it).
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 3:00 pm
Controversy!

Anyway I've been up there like 4 times should have known.......
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 3:00 pm
Sorry again - the game was a bit quiet so I thought I would prod a bit.
Won't do that again - I guess I was just trying to suggest this view:

Tue 08 Sep, 2009 3:13 pm
Hehe ah ok. Maybe Ossa? definately Barn in the background
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 3:17 pm
I think you are in the saddle between Mt Doris and the start of the ascent up Mt Ossa.
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 3:17 pm
ILUVSWTAS wrote:Hehe ah ok. Maybe Ossa? definately Barn in the background
Yep, Barn is one of the peaks in the background. Ossa is part of the answer....
Tue 08 Sep, 2009 3:18 pm
