The texture / grainyness adds to the effect.
Not sure I know where it is, have I been there?

Looks like it could be PB, but not sure on the angle to get New River lagoon in the background;
sunset from near Wylly camp maybe?

Yep that's it Stu, you'll be there this Summer. It's PB from Wylly Plateau back in Easter 99.

We went to Victoria Cross the next morning then all the way to High Camp on PB, including going up PB in the dark, it was very steep but there were tags. We set up our tents at last in the dark when we got to a flat spot and wondered why the 'track' up PB was so hard compared to the rest of the walk. We could see some head torches in the distance and thought it must be PB High Camp. The next day we saw a much more gentle track coming up, we had gone the wrong way, who knows why the tags were there. Plus we actually were at PB high camp, the head torches were some people camped on the summit!

So it isn't just me that takes the wrong route then?
This one shouldn't be too hard for those familiar with the area...

I think it is a great photo Amanda - terrific atmosphere - and there were sufficient clues in the photo.
It was a bit hard to pick it on the blackberry - but the distinctive curve on the left & jagged tail locked it in as PB.

I think lining up Mt Rugby [ - took me an age to twig this profile - when I had easily seen it on some of the previous photos]
with the front mountains [Pollux & Harrys Bluff] might push you further along the Eastern Authurs than the 4 Peaks?

Was up there quite recently..... :)

Couldnt resist putting this pic up as it stars my little boy Seth taken last winter.
The mountain should be easy to ID and those who know where I live will probably be at an advantage...... which hill are we walking up.....

On closer inspection the hills in question only appear on the higher ratio maps. Sunny Hills behind our house at Glen huon and the Mtn in question is Mt Weld.

So I'll put this up instead....

After a bit of a burst - people may be slowing down for a bit.
This is a discussion - bit of a ramble actually..

What I can see has a section of white dirt road in it. So while it has a South Coast feel to it, it won't be there.
Such dirt does run through various parts of the North West & West Coast - including the more remote parts south of Maquarie Harbour.

A track also crosses over past Mt McCutcheon to Mt McCall
There are also some odd tracks off the highway to Queenstown - both on the south towards Frenchman's Cap and to the north over Mt Arrowsmith.
The white outcrops makes me think this is the most likely area.
It "feels" like the view up from Nelson Falls area to the Raglan Range, but I have no photos to compare, but the foreground does not look flat enough..

Actually that white bit had me confused as well. I can assure you it isnt a road and although I have been quite close to it I still dont know what it is! A processing error maybe!

Go with your initial feeling!

So are you looking up South West Cape Range from just above Wilson Bight on the way towards Mt Karuma?

correctamondo! or yes thats correct!
Mt Karuma it is! I really dont know what that white thing is, Day before that picture was taken I walked up the obvious spur from wilsons bight to Mt Karuma so would have passed within metres of it.

There have been a few beaches lately.
Nearest town will do - although the beach does have a name.
You may get a laugh from the picture file name. [My son is Tom]

Right peninsula (in fact google satellite shows up a few with the extensive gutters on the peninsula) - but wrong location.
This was the only beach we saw like it - but that is probably due to tide times.
Here is another view from the same place to assist.
