Crikey, I've been there, and I fell off that log years ago. Still didn't recognise it!
Still NSW:

Looking over the Nepean?

Extremely close, but no. The Nepean may be hiding in the background somewhere.

We were waltzing along this section of track above the canyon.
The confluence with the Nepean is only a km or so away as the crow flies.

Hmmm dunno? I know there is a clue in your response but I can’t think of anything. Cataract Ck?

Not Cataract Creek. A fair distance from there if it's the one I think.
Yes a bit cryptic but at least 2 clues in my previous post.
Lots of people walk this track and many also use the large swimming hole.

Yes, on the "Matilda Track" above the canyon/Bargo River. Walked it last father's day after many years absence. The swimming hole I referred to is Mermaids Pool. Informal names by Robert Sloss, who is still active looking after that area at almost 90. I was surprised to find free pocket sized track maps /info printed in colour at the start. All yours.

Looks like the view you can get walking the long point track …but probably not?

Russells Needle from Russells Needle Lockout Trail

Reckon that's right, but if so... keen to know a) if you had to skirt private property and b) how easy it is to get across to the needle from there (if you did it)

It's Russells Needle, but on the footpad closer to Russells Needle rather then the trail. I made a loop from the southern helipad and across the river - it's possible to find a scrambling route up to the northern helipad but it's tricky.

Thanks, I believe it got burnt in the 2020 fires. The regrowth could be an issue these days. I wonder if anyone has been there recently.

Red Rocks?

Not sure where Red Rocks is. If it's in the Cambewarra Range Nature Reserve then Donkey Mountain was a lot closer, In fact you can see Donkey Mountain from where the photo was taken

Red Rocks near Newnes, close to Point Anderson and Point Nicholson, north of Mt Dawson. Anyway clearly it isn't there so back to the drawing board.

Looking at angles, I'll try Woolpack Gap.

I found Red rocks now on OSM, looks interesting
Woolpack Gap is within 5klm of where I was standing
