NickD - wrong area.
SOB - I wonder if eggs will find it with google earth.

He did well with the last fallen tree. Assuming I've got the right place, I can't see that tree on Google's satellite image. I thought it would have been obvious, but the satellite picture doesn't seem to show it at all.

I had a look at google earth.
The rock at the other end of the body of water shows up as well as the feature behind me, but the tree doesn't.

Furmage?
Give us non google using players some clues......
Tue 29 Sep, 2009 7:39 pm
Furmage? Was he/she a skier?
After a search, no, not Lake Furmage. Wrong area.
Are there pandani on the central plateau?
Tue 29 Sep, 2009 7:58 pm

Ok I'll keep throwing random names in...... Olive?

You are standing just in front of Twilight Tarn hut.
Tue 29 Sep, 2009 10:39 pm
Thankyou dee_legg, you win.
A distinctive log, even if ungooglable.
Tue 29 Sep, 2009 10:43 pm
Yeah, it sure is. My coldest night yet was spent in that hut!
I'm in the photo, but where are we?

A nice shot of the Southern Reserve, from Little Hugel I think?
(Mt Olympus & Mt Byron in the background)
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 9:45 am
Yep, Little Hugel it is.
One of my favourite views!
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 9:55 am
This one should be pretty easy for those that have been here...
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 10:07 am
Its not that hard for those who haven't been there. Some very distinctive peaks in view.
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 1:50 pm
Is the photo taken from Mount Taurus overlooking Lake Jupiter?
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 2:01 pm
You got it Phil, Lake Jupiter & Mt Aldebaran from Mt Taurus it is.
Over to you...
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 2:10 pm

That skyline looks a lot like Mt Rufus - so are you are on the Mt Rufus track?
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 4:02 pm
yes eggs, on the Mount Rufus track..........but maybe a little more precision as the Rufus track is a circuit track
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 4:19 pm
You should take my answer to mean on the up track heading directly for Mt Rufus.
I seem to remember it heading up towards the visible high point before hitting a flatter section which turns and crosses to the ridgeline on the left and then follows that ridge edge heading up to the top that you can see before heading along the long ridge beyond that point that leads to the true top.
I must admit that with the snow and burnt out trees, it may be possible you are on the return leg coming past Shadow Lake etc. but that was not my suggestion.
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 4:40 pm
Well if that's what you had thought then you are exactly right eggs
This photo is taken close to the intersection of the Rufus Track that crosses over to Shadow Lake.
Over to you
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 4:44 pm
That's nice - you had me worried there. But so long ago.....sigh
Where is this one?
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 6:27 pm
I dont know but gosh it looks nice!
Is it Murchison or the Tyndalls??
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 7:02 pm
Neither
Some would suggest this is a view over 'leech central'
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 7:40 pm
Would it be looking over Lake Nancy?
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 8:03 pm
Yes flyfisher
Just off the track to Irenabyss from Frenchman's Cap - as it descends the back of the Lions Head looking over Lake Nancy.
Leech Central is the Mary Creek Plains in front of a sunlit Flat Bluff in the distance.
Wed 30 Sep, 2009 8:08 pm
Excellent, but as I don't have a suitable pic ,first up gets a go.

What no guesses? Looks like Wellington in the background with Mt Hull and Goat HIlls to the left, then Dromedary a bit closer. So I would say Platform Peak? However there is another mountain you visited the other day that is in the same area, it could well be that instead, but I will stick with PP for now.
Thu 01 Oct, 2009 1:57 pm
I'd say you are spot on Amanda with PP, Tanina Bluff is quite a bit further north & does not have such a direct view of Dromedary.
