ILUVSWTAS

you must get out to the west coast for a look.
Can I recommend Mt Murchison - fantastic walk and views.
You may be right about the location, but this is looking south, not north.

Murchison is definately high on the list! Probably one of the first I will visit out that way!!

I think you deserve the next go tho eggs! you were obviously aware of the location!!

No - there has been verified answer yet. It is not Murchison - its just that the skyline range is very clear from Murcho - if the weather is suitable.

Like tasadam I have not checked the maps yet - and I have definitely not been where this is from.

The foreground still has me puzzled - but I have other things to do for now.

Definitely not Murchison, although it was certainly in view if I had pointed the camera more southwestish. I must admit to being a little unsure about what the peak in the midground right is. I think its name probably starts with an I. Perhaps someone could verify or correct me.

Ok - I have looked at the maps now.

The nice peak on the right is probably Mt Remus. ( I suspect you thought it might be Inglis?)
You were a long way north - further than I originally thought.
Probably going over Mt Beecroft on the way into Reynolds Falls?

[Can I put in a blatant plug for an SA photo competition? - anyone can vote for it ( but you will need to log in), but only SA can enter.
This is my best performing photo and a few more votes could make a big difference. Its one I have put up under my Mt Brown posts.

Beecroft is correct. A nice easy walk from the Cardle Link Rd. Yes I did think the peak on the right was Inglis but now that I look more closely at the map and line it up with Eldon Peak and Eldon Bluff in the distance I realise you are right - it is Remus. Too close to be Inglis and fairly obviously on the same ridge with Back Peak. Your go Eggs

This one is a bit trickier - not on a named peak.
You should try and name the small lake just below me (or the bigger one behind me  )

right area - but only 1 out of 3.
The lake behind the photographer is Lake Huntley - but this is not Saddle Lake and the peak as mentioned is unnamed - but a fair bit higher than Huntley Lookout
PS - some may pick that Mt Remus and Mt Beecroft are also in this view - see last entry.

I am sorry but I am off early tomorrow to Katoomba for four days. (have never been there before)
Someone post a pic please.

Yes, I thought that would make it sufficiently non-cryptic, given the lack of other visual stimuli such as mountain skylines, etc. :)

tasadam

the vegetation looks like stunted coastal heath to me.
A bit like this.

I suspect not the wet West Coast - but it might be anywhere along the drier east or north coasts - maybe even Flinders Is?

Whoops! I'm supposed to check on things from time to time, aren't I?

Neither Tasman, nor Flinders nor Bruny Islands/peninsulas. It's on the Tasmanian mainland. It's coastal, as already said. It does look pretty dry, doesn't it?

The photo is really a failure, because what I set out to record cannot be seen (although it's in plain sight). A fault of the medium, more than anything else.

Have to rush out to lunch, promise to provide a real clue afterwards. :) :)

Wrong scale. That would be about 60 metres of rock. The vegetation is coastal, and looks stunted probably more because of wind than because of lack of rain.

For the mappish, the feature adjacent to the picture (i.e. where I'm standing) goes by two different names depending on which set of Tasmaps you are looking at.

We were politely asked not to climb the feature in the picture.

There, that ought to give it away.

Hmmm

I never was good at riddles and cryptic puzzles [refer previous attempts by 'others"]

But I need to get a few things straight.
1. There is a feature IN the photo which is not to be climbed.
2. There is another feature which goes by 2 different names which is where the photographer is standing - and hence it cannot be seen in the photo.
3. The feature in the photo is obvious - but it cannot be seen, due to the magic/limitations of photography.

4. These clues should have just "given it away"

About the only things I have gained are that the slope probably faces west - as it is very wind blown and it is coastal on the main island of Tas.
Not clear on which part it is - it could even be west coast, given the "it does look pretty dry" and "not stunted due to lack of rain" comments.

My poor little confused head is riffling through possibilities - any monuments you shouldn't climb on?
- any old wrecks?
- any old buildings falling into disrepair?
- any mine workings.... hold that thought ..... - is that some form of rubble from a mine and not a scree slope!
There would probably be warnings about climbing old rubble heaps!
Nothing jumps to mind for now - but that could be a fruitful line to consider - got to go to bed..

Hi eggs!

I didn't set out to confuse or obfuscate (nice word that!) I guess I'm blown away by the stunning views in this comp and the equally stunning feats of deductive reasoning (often by your good self!! :) ) used to identify the places and views. So, not having many spectacular views from Tasmania's 'rooftop', I put up some more mundane view and then feel the need to be a little oblique because the subject seems obvious. Too oblique, evidently.

The location is West Coast.
You are looking at a mountain which shares its name with another in Tassie.
The rocks are a scree slope, I guess.

That's right Ashlee!

Mount Cameron West, taken from Two Mile Sand, aka Mount Cameron Beach. The mountain is home to aboriginal rock carvings which are prone to damage and have been covered with sand for protection, I understand.

The photograph was taken because of the way the freshening westerly produced waves in the scrub moving diagonally up the mountain. Ideal for a video, but I failed to capture a sense of movement with my old Nikon F80.

Your turn, Ashlee
