Thanks sbs, & sorry eggs ... I thought a mining man like you would've got it ... or were you just egging others along :?:

I've cropped this a bit to remove the most obvious clue. But if you've been there when it was like this, you wouldn't have forgotten the place,

cheers

I wouldn't say terrified, but I sure as hell wouldn't have done it!

I'll take a totally random guess at the lake... Meston?

Yep - Lk Myrtle. I thought it was a repeat, which is why I disguised it a bit.

Here's the full image. A fabulous evening - in stark contrast to the 1 metre westerly swell I'd experienced there a couple of years earlier!

The water level suggests a full L St Clair to me, but it be some other artificially raised lake.

(edit- ignore, sorry I am a page behind with the problems)

I rekon that'll be pretty close robl; maybe from Mt Snowy.
A direct view to the Boomerang, Bobs & Bobs 3 Knobs definitely suggests this area.

Yep, Hartz peak.

Took 3 attempts before I got this view.....seems to like a bit of cloud down that way
Wasn't expecting such a great view to Fedders etc, I'm constantly surprised by how close everything in Tassie is to each other, but how difficult it is to get to these places
Hopefully my second attempt at Bobs next week will be successful :D

Good luck on attempt # 2 at Bobs SBS - what went wrong on attempt #1?
Hope you get a drained sink hole for your trip in there, lovely little camping area if it's clear.

Murphy follows me, as some on this forum might know.
I'm not that experienced with only 3 years walking in Tas and mainly day walks, I hadn't been into the SW via Farmhouse before.
My start was delayed by taking the wrong branch of the Picton Road, by the time I started I was running 2 hrs behind.
The track was atrocious, with many trees down and plenty of mud to slide about on.
It was raining pretty hard, after a few hours of wallowing about I still hadn't found the Lake Sydney track junction(maybe I did, but wasn't sure).
Without having too much experience in those conditions and being on my own I retreated to the last campsite I had seen.
Has to be said after a pretty lethargic winter the body wasn't in prime condition

Decided to retreat home with tail firmly between my legs, and address all the issues I confronted. I quite often have a 'recce' before walks and now classify this 'attempt' as a 'recce'.
Have now lost 10kg, have got 80-odd km of walking under my feet and have enlisted some more experienced company for the trip.
It's been fairly dry lately so am hopeful for a great campsite.

It was your photo of The Boomerang that inspired my attempt...thank's for that

Looking over Orion Lakes to Olympus?

(edit - on closer looking I have changed my mind)
(I don't think it is Olympus)

I think I'll have to give it to robl. Orion Lakes was the key feature, even though ollster was half right about the Travellers. Quite honestly I don't know whether we were on the Mts of Jupiter or the Traveller Range. But it was certainly the Orion Lakes. Best fagus I've ever had the privelege of seeing, too!

Over to you robl,

cheers
