NE Ridge Mt Anne looking to The Notch?
Wed 09 Dec, 2009 9:28 pm
Interesting suggestion! The Notch and Lot is considerably larger than the nameless bump which is the feature in this photo....
Thu 10 Dec, 2009 2:47 pm
Bit quiet again SW - so I'll take a stab at one of those indistinguished bumps on Deception Ridge, still in the Anne area. (Eg Celtic Hill, Druids Hill??)
cheers
Peter

It is a bit isnt it! Picture has been viewed a fair few times, people obviously stumped by this one....
The lump on the right could be something to consider..... It's not in the Mt Anne area.....
Thu 10 Dec, 2009 4:12 pm
Is this looking back from King William 3 - with the main part leading to KW 2 behind on the right?
Thu 10 Dec, 2009 4:28 pm
Thats much closer Eggs, MUCH closer, but still not quite right.
EDIT actually Eggs that bit on the right you thought may have been the link from KWII to KWIII is much further apart than it looks! Seperated by a huge valley with a nice river in it.....
The Right hand peak has been correctly recognised by you in a shot of mine on a totally different peak many months ago

Okay, above Lake Rufus is that patch of snow the same one we can see from your photo comp weener?
Looking north to DOOMSDAY bluff? or looking west at Church Peak across the Surprise River?

Actually..... Hold the press..... Upon closer look at my maps I now see where you were referring to in Church peak.
Thats close VERY VERY CLOSE......
It's actually from Milligans peak near KWI and the bluff you can see is LODDEN BLUFF, not church peak, but this shot has gone on long enough so I'll give it to you SBS!!
Well done!!

Congrats sbs
ILUVSWTAS - I was really scratching my head about your clues of a previous entry.
I know I identified Slatters Peak (though didn't know the name at the time) and also Wylds Craig, but nothing matching that skyline.
I did however get the nod for a photo from stubowling from Mt Pitt. It has a great view of
LODDON Bluff (lets gets the spelling right - it messes up using the search tool if we spell things wrong)
http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=2307&p=25233&hilit=only+log+on+at+work#p25233Which probably means that the photo of yours that I got was actually the one of Slatters Peak - where I made specific reference to the columns at the far back being on the Loddon Range?
Which would actually be north along the range from Loddon Bluff. It could have even be Church Peak or the rise a bit further north again.
The King Williams look like a great place to go.
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 10:17 am
Sorry Loddon......... Now you sound like my wife, She's always pulling me up on my spelling....
Yeh Slatters was the one I meant. You Identified LODDON bluff in the background.....
And yes the King Willys was a fantastic place to go
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 3:12 pm
cool...but I'll pass it on, just heading out for the night.
Let the game roll on......

Is this where someone jumps in and posts? Like me? Like this?
It's an ancient slide - the first mountain I ever climbed in that part of the state.
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 3:53 pm
Good one - yes - jump right in.
Wonderful ridge lines - on the LHS - Mt Curly ridgeline?- Rocky High Innes - Prince of Wales Range and Frenchmans Cap rising at the rear.
So - is that the North Star on the right? And where would that place you? hmm
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 4:01 pm
Wow! Impressive! From Eggs and WNW. The stars are very elusive peaks!!
I guess going on Eggs's comments you must be on Pokana or Centre Star.....?
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 4:03 pm
Golly eggs! This was 1980, so I can't rightly remember. It was my first year in Tassie and I didn't really know what I was looking at - I just knew I was hooked for the rest of my life!
But it's rather further east than you're guessing,
cheers

... and further south. It's actually a day walk destination (with views I still am amazed at!)
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 4:14 pm
I'm having a bad day ILUVSWTAS.
I am thinking probably the only correct peak is Frenchman's now.
You've been out that way.
What does Clear Hill look like from that angle? ie as the RHS peak?
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 4:18 pm
Haha, happens to the best of us Eggs....
I was thinking Clear Hill, as it's one of the only accessable day walks in the area offering such views, sadly our views from there were like this....

Clear Hill does have a trig station on it tho.....
And it doesnt look scrubby enough to be the Ragged Range

Fri 11 Dec, 2009 4:21 pm
Maybe then it's Mt Cullen?
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 7:50 pm
Peter made me proxy - without knowing I had gone home and was doing transport for tennis tonight.
I can honestly say that my reference to Clear Hill was with the idea that he may have been somewhere SE from it - meaning Clear Hill is the peak on the right, not that he was on Clear Hill.
Not sure if that is right, but with that in mind, Cullen is too far west from Peter's peak.
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 7:54 pm
Yeh I noticed that afterwards....
ARRGHHH I dont know, Is it Bowes.... Is it in fact Ragged?? is it Wings LO??? Is it even in the SW....... (ignore that last one)
Fri 11 Dec, 2009 8:04 pm
Pretty sure now the RHS is not Clear Hill - but it is a peak close to Clear Hill
Sat 12 Dec, 2009 11:19 am
Could it be The Thumbs with Mt Wright on the right?
EDIT Changed my mind- Mt Mueller?
Sat 12 Dec, 2009 11:54 am
Can't be The Thumbs(was there recently and it just doesn't look right), and if it was further South you should be able to see The Thumbs....and a daywalk, has me stupified.
Perhaps it's from Mt Mueller?
Oh bugger baeten to it, still don't know
Sat 12 Dec, 2009 12:00 pm
Sorry guys - out walking and shopping
Yes - Mt Mueller it was. Over to robl
[My suspicion is the RHS peak is the Thumbs? If so - the distinctive skyline is not apparent. But the rest of the LHS ridges does tie in with Spires / Rocky High Innes & POW before Frenchmans. Lot of zoom though]
PS - checked using Google Earth and a ruler - the RHS peak is definitely Clear Hill. One of the ridges at the back is POW, but the area I thought was Spires/Rocky High Innes is actually the Pleiades.
