Got it Adam - it is indeed on the Eliza Plateau on the way to Annie looking back at Mount Eliza. Your go!
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 2:24 pm
Thanks tomberli, great time to be up there with all that snow!
OK, here's one from my archives.

Hi Adam - that's looking like somewhere not far from the Overland Track. Although the background doesn't quite fit, it has me in mind of Mt Achilles and Perrins Bluff. Am I warm?
cheers
Peter

Not really warm I would say.
There's at least a couple of significant chunks of rock in the way that I can think of.
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:00 pm
Does the name Gould come into it?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:06 pm
Could that faint thing in the background on the right be Mount Murchinson?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:12 pm
Could be a tele-photo shot.
I would have thought from Thetis tho.
Definitely Achilles & Perrins Bluff as I was there earlier on in the year.

I didn't read properly, sorry. Yes the primary background peaks are correctly named as Achilles on the right, and the start of Perrins Bluff on the left.

I reckon you might be able to see Gould from where I am, but to answer the question, No.
tomberli wrote:Could that faint thing in the background on the right be Mount Murchinson?
I'm going to be completely honest and say "I don't know". At the utter disgust of having my last image guessed in 2 minutes flat, I had to follow through on a comment I made that I won't make the next one so easy. But I think the angle is wrong for Murchison.
stubowling wrote:I would have thought from Thetis tho.
Definitely not on Thetis here, perhaps there was a bit more telephoto that I first thought.
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:22 pm
Must be Ossa to get that height then?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:24 pm
Does that mean it's my innings?
I'll put one up & withdraw it if I'm not entitled
cheers
Peter
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:42 pm
Best withdraw - you have identified the peaks in the image as Achilles and Perrins, but you have not identified where I am standing.
It's a fair bit of walking from the Overland Track.
And no, it's not Ossa.
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:46 pm
Maybe from the Du Cane range then (ie. the high point)?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:46 pm
Withdrawal accepted
Are you on the Du Canes (Mt Massif to be more precise)?
cheers
Peter
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:49 pm
Not on ducanes as such, that eliminates Acropolis, Geryons, Ducane range over to big gun pass, Masif, and anything east of that.
I am on a summit. Running out of options now eh?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:53 pm
I'd say Walled Mt, except I thought that was part of the Du Canes
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:55 pm
If Walled Mtn is part of the Ducane Range, then there is a chance I am also on the Ducane Range. But as it is a summit in its own right - and a good one too, I'll need its name.
And no, it's not Walled Mountain.
Time for a big clue? Want to see a spectacular photo of Walled mountain from this location?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:58 pm
Hyperion, tho don't think you have been there.
Hmmm...feeling a little stumped.
Eros?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 3:59 pm
High Dome?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 4:00 pm
Crumbs tasadam
When you said it wasn't Achilles and Perrins I thought maybe that was Murcho. But perhaps not.
Definitely zoomed - if its not Thetis - then perhaps the RHS is the edge of Thetis - which would place you on Hyperion or the Ducaine Range.
Cannot place the background though.
About 10 posts while I was thinking through this - duh!
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 4:00 pm
We're either doing a pincer movement, Stu ... or maybe triangulating. But who's right?

Eros?
There is the magic word - Hyperion! A worthy summit and an interesting climb. There are a number of ways of checking to see whether you think it's an option - use the search...
Phone coverage for example.
A reference to
climbing Hyperion...
And I mentioned I was there at the bottom of
this post.
Your go Stu!
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 4:12 pm
A worthy summit indeed tasadam, & I'd say from experience a tad harder than Geryon North;
that little corner section that you have to climb up has turned back several people I know of.
I did it on a magic day that also included Du Cane Range high point, Geryon North & Eros - summits galore
This area has not yet featured in the game (big clue), which should keep the stalwarts happy
(no guesses from my regular walking partners please!).

- Hamilton Ranges - little unnamed lake on the eastern side of the Hamilton Range
I won't be back until morning so happy guessing / researching.
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 4:27 pm
Awww, No guesses?? What am I going to do this evening...... Oh well at least Top Gear and Man VS Wild is on TV.......
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 4:40 pm
Looks like Sanctuary Lake from Redtop Peak - in the Frankland Range
Or better would be a little before Redtop along Madonna Ridge
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 4:45 pm
I think Stu wanted you guys to sweat over this one for a while, So I wont say anything more than NO
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 7:28 pm
Never been there but I go with eggs. (but there is a suggestion of looking south)
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 7:31 pm
Well I said Eggs was wrong, and im afraid that doesnt change for you sorry Robl..
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 7:57 pm
OK. Looking over Dungeon Tarn from NE of Snowy Sth?
Mon 14 Dec, 2009 8:00 pm
Dont know if stu's going to mind me taking over as proxy for him.... BUT he has done the same for me in the interest of keeping the game going..
So I'll just go ahead and say NO
