Looks like Central Highlands area, maybe WOJ or the southern part of Cradle NP, but I know that it is likely to be in the SW
Thu 11 Mar, 2010 7:24 pm
It's a location in Tasmania yes!
Thu 11 Mar, 2010 7:29 pm
That could be nearly anywhere in Tassie - Central, South, East. Doesn't look like the SW though to me.
Thu 11 Mar, 2010 7:31 pm
Hehe glad you get my meaning Rachel. As you had only one guess/comment at a time, i'll answer that. No it's not SW! Not scrubby enough to be SW
Thu 11 Mar, 2010 8:32 pm
East tower from West tower? bit of a guess really

The buildings on top look like those on the South Sisters near St Mary's. Perhaps taken from St Patrick's Head or Tower Hill.

Nice photo.
Mt Graham on Freycinet - looking South to Schouten?
Tue 16 Mar, 2010 11:19 am
VERY Close
eggs, just delete two adjacent words in your reply and your answer will be spot on. Do that and post the next picture
Tue 16 Mar, 2010 12:14 pm
Close is not good enough - perhaps someone else can work out which 2 words to delete?
I guess its sometimes hard to tell the difference between granite and dolerite? But I thought he was standing on granite?
Tue 16 Mar, 2010 1:16 pm
Graham on
Tue 16 Mar, 2010 1:39 pm
Ok - I had figured tas-man wanted Mt Freycinet - but I was trying to palm off the next photo.
But given that you will give us a real brain breaker - I will jump in with an easy one - what is this waterfall?
Wed 17 Mar, 2010 2:35 pm
I suspect that is Nelson Falls on the Lyell Highway
Wed 17 Mar, 2010 2:43 pm
Here is a slightly different one.. standing in one reserve looking at another...
Thu 18 Mar, 2010 4:43 pm
Hint number 1 - east coast
Thu 18 Mar, 2010 9:06 pm
Douglas Aspley Looking at Freycinet??
Thu 18 Mar, 2010 9:49 pm
I had thought that might be Mt Freycinet behind (after the clue - before that I was thinking Rufus)
However, Douglas-Aspley is a long way North and the Hazards would be in view.
If it is Mt Freycinet then the angle suggests it could be from the channels at the far side of Lake Tooms - War Bay

That was my first thought too, but as eggs says, I think the Douglas Apsley is too far north, and looking closely, the vegetation looks very coastal. I just don't know the reserves down there well enough to make a guess.

You are all getting warmer ...keep coming south

I am afraid the clues have thrown me a bit.
2 reserves implies 2 National Parks
The suggestion this is coastal (tidal - which means near high tide) implies the path to the sea is behind the photographer, but the land is lying low.
Further south suggests this is not Mt Freycinet, but Mt Maria.
That would place us in Tasman National Park - but where is any north facing flat area with tidal lagoon to the south?
The best I can suggest is around Top or Swan Lagoons - but is this a Reserve?
Fri 19 Mar, 2010 9:08 am
You are on the right path eggs but what if you were on the island looking to the mainland....
ps - not all reserves are national parks
Fri 19 Mar, 2010 10:36 am
So perhaps the inlet at Chinaman's Bay - Maria Is - looking west towards "3 Thumbs" in the State Forest south of Orford?
Fri 19 Mar, 2010 11:28 am
Very good eggs - close enough. Actually from 4 Mile Creek looking towards the Three Thumbs State Reserve
Fri 19 Mar, 2010 1:06 pm
That wasa little generous - though it was a very hard one.
This is a bit harder than my last one.
Fri 19 Mar, 2010 2:28 pm
Pretty sure you're on the Lake Judd Track looking south to the ridges that radiate from Schnells Ridge.
Perhaps just after crossing the Anne River?
I've been known to be very wrong tho...definitely South-West area somewhere...
Fri 19 Mar, 2010 2:35 pm
Got the same pick, so I'm sure you are close, pretty sure it's on the Pedder side of the Anne though
