Well there isn't much else to go on from my eyes. Then, I haven't done enough walking in your neighbourhood.
Tue 30 Mar, 2010 7:51 am
Is it on the dromedary range? there is an open patch similar to that in the photo between Platform Peak and Tanina Bluff. It may actually be Tanina in the background and is the photo taken from the road? (on the off chance i am correct some1 else can post)

Well in ILUVSWTAS absence' I have got out the List and Google Satellite and scanned the Dromedary Range.
[I presume he is off walking]
I reckon you are right on the ball with this area, but I suspect the background range maps better if he is looking North-West across the Little Marsh from its southern east side.
[PS - I cannot see any white tree skeletons in Google Satellite - but then again, they may not show up very well]

Hi, Yes Eggs, I have been out walking, but we'll get to that later.
This is not Dromedary, but it is in the Hobart area

This is a Grey area in the game, but I thought someone might throw a few guesses out there??
Wed 31 Mar, 2010 8:46 am
Grey area...very nice clue mate...lol.
Wed 31 Mar, 2010 8:57 am
Hehehe Yeh I liked it.
Wed 31 Mar, 2010 12:28 pm
Ok, this one's dragging on now...
You are near Grey Mountain in the Huon Valley, but maybe not looking at it directly (can't see the towers etc. that I remember from this one).
Perhaps you are looking across the Snug Plains towards Wellings Hill?
Wed 31 Mar, 2010 6:31 pm
Yay Well done Stu.
Thu 01 Apr, 2010 8:14 am
Ok, something easy to keep things rolling along...
Thu 01 Apr, 2010 8:51 am
Are you in the saddle between Paddys Nut and Mt Thetis? Perhaps on the Thetis side of the saddle?
Thu 01 Apr, 2010 8:56 am
Close enough TT as i've got to head out to a meeting now.
It's from the summit of Paddys Nut looking at Mt Ossa.
Over to you...
Thu 01 Apr, 2010 9:23 am
Oops. Trying to be too clever. I originally said Paddy's Nut but then changed my answer given the way the bits of Ossa line up with the clearing in the valley below. I was about to resort to holding a ruler up to a map on my computer screen when someone came in and I felt a bit stoopid! It made me think of the early word processor operator who used whiteout on their screen. Not sure if that ever happened. I suspect it's an urban myth.
If folks can be patient enough, I will scan a photo in when I go home for lunch soon after 12.

I'd say you are in the Mersey river
Thu 01 Apr, 2010 11:48 am
It's a long River! Can you name the beach?
Thu 01 Apr, 2010 1:23 pm
That's a bit harsh.
He says Mersey River and in the photo is the breakwater right at the very end - with open ocean and the ferry to boot...
What has me curious is the old wreck. The ferry had to exit from behind the photographer - which means you have basically walked right off the breakwater itself.
And then you ask for the name of a beach??
Thu 01 Apr, 2010 1:41 pm
I agree Eggs. I was in the process of writing this when your post appeared. Too harsh!!!
It is called Shipwreck Beach but I can only find it on the Tassie Towns Street Atlas map. The 1:100k, 1:25k and GoogleMaps do not name it. Hence, pazzar, you're up!
For those who are interested, the wreck is a bucket dredge called the G. Ward Cole which ran aground in a storm a mere 80 years ago!
Thu 01 Apr, 2010 2:45 pm
I didn't know the name if the beach, let alone that there was a wreck there, but the river looked very familiar. I'm away from my photos at the moment so anyone feel free to post the next one

Ok, I've been wanting to join in, so I see an opportunity

Looking west across Spain Bay towards Knapp Point?
Sun 04 Apr, 2010 7:07 pm
There is a plethora of photos from Spain Bay in
this post, but I cannot make the hilltops line up. Sure looks like Spain Bay area though.
I would have thought that if he can see out to sea, the white cliffs would be evident.
I know you cannot see the sea from the far right end of the beach.
When I first saw this image I was thinking somewhere on the south coast track but have not decided which beach, sure makes playing the game harder when I moved all my photos to another computer.

You are in the right area

All I'll say is it isn't spain bay - anything more will give it away if you look at the area (and cheat with google earth

).
Another Hint for those savvy - It's a popular destination for Par Avion Day Flights..
Sun 04 Apr, 2010 9:06 pm
All I can come up with is
here (green arrow) but I didn't think you would see out to sea from there.
So I don't know.
I don't google earth.
Sun 04 Apr, 2010 9:14 pm
Nope

Ok, lets try this. It was once an area used by Whalers, and rock & Scrub to the right are hiding the Breaksea Islands

Look very carefully and you might see another Island in the photo
Sun 04 Apr, 2010 10:00 pm
Once Tasadam had shown it was not Spain Bay, I did scan through the List for areas nearby.
I did think maybe Toogelow Beach looking south towards Mt Milner, but I was not confident...
This will also be wrong - I suspect his other island is Turnball Is - and that it is directly in view merging with the background.
PS - this is a great picture.

I think I'm going to say Egg's the closest and I'll accept his answer, mainly because I suspect we have different names for the spot.
The spot itself is known on maps as Bramble Cove and if I turned 180 degrees, I'd be looking up at Mt Stokes. I recently had the pleasure of a day trip to Bathurst Harbour with Par Avion (using my xmas present mentioned in another post somewhere). Plane flies in to Melaleuca then a boat trip to Clayton's Landing, on to Bramble Cove for lunch and then back again for the flight back out.
Melaleuca surprised me with the number of flights in and out - there were 5 planes in the 15 mins after we landed.
Of course, all this has done is make me want to spend more time there for photographic pursuits...
Anyhoo, over to you Eggs
Mon 05 Apr, 2010 10:02 am
Ok - I was confident from your clues you were in Bramble Cove - but I thought someone else might like to suggest it as my first 2 attempts had been wrong.
I am also not sure where in Bramble Cove - whether the middle or the northern corner.
Anyway - where is she?

Shucks - and I thought she was so well camouflaged....
Oh well - I guess the next question is "where was I?"
