Re: Game - "Where am I ?"

Postby abowen » Fri 26 Jun, 2009 2:47 pm

Kramster,
I am guessing that it may be the tunnel at Zeehan, but I don't know the name of it. I think it was once an old railway line for one of the mines. If correct, happy for someone else with another photo to have a go.
ps Looks like others are on the same track.
Cheers
Andrew

If anyone has seen Dying Breed i'm sure they will see the similarities between this lovely tunnel and a particularly suspensful and quite disgusting scene in the movie where i think two of the characters are killed, oh how nice.

Hi dee_legg, This is taken from a spot on the coast below Don Hill to west of Devonport looking to the Dial Range in the distance. The grid reference as best I can determine is 41° 09' 15.87" S and 146° 19' 25.23" E at an elevation of around 50 metres.

It's actually me wot posted it, tas-man, and do you know the name of the place? Best kept secret in Devonport I reckon (or was :D ). I'm not sure about the exact co-ords but I expect you're pretty close.

All weekend! How would we cope!

I did PM Scavenger to get the answer, but I was probably a bit too late to catch her. I've made a small change to the "Keeping the game moving" tips.
Proxy: If a Photographer posts a picture and then finds that he/she can't monitor the game, you can PM the answer to another player who will act as "Proxy Photographer".

I am happy to act as proxy and I am sure some of the regular players will be happy to do the same. You could even just post a query and ask for a volunteer Proxy.

My apollogies Devon Annie, was in hurry to respond so did not read carefully enough

This was my estimate of the spot from where the photo was taken, but I could not find a specific name on that point on the list or any of my maps, so as you say "Best kept secret in Devonport!" If that's an OK, I will sort out a photo to post to keep the game going.

I was wondering how someone who lives so far away  worked it out, should have remembered Google! I think you could say you got it. Let's see the next photo.

I have a son, and did have my wife's parents, living in Burnie, and have been driving there for 15 years, so the profile of the Dial Range was a give away. Well here's my first contribution to this game and I trust not too difficult or too easy, so give it your best shot :!:

Its too low and too far past Lake Hanson to be the Little Horn
But it is certainly looking west....

Edit - after prompt from walkinTas - this is actually looking east.
We are both hopelessly lost!!

As a sidelight perhaps the horrific Tassie road toll is to do with Bushwalkers gazing at distant peaks rather than the road in front of them :P

Now I am thinking Lake Thor in foreground, Mersey crag & Turrana Bluff in distance. You are on Mt Jerusalem, northern end, I think.

Shouldn't have done that. I'm off to bed and might not get back on for a while. But if you know it go right ahead without me.

The range left of centre is the New Harbour Range, Point Eric is the low hill in the centre, and in the distance is Mt. Melaleuca.
