Gibber Plain was the answer.
It is an elevated flat platform covered in those large rocks - but a great viewpoint to some the Gammon peaks

Ah cool, It would be a great year to go ... lots of water. Your photo is certainly greener than when I was there.

Sticking with the South Australian theme, name the foreground feature again :)

Can we have a clue? Is it a beach on the Eyre Peninsula?

Sandy Creek Beach Kangaroo Island

Very close Tony, but wrong beach :)

Could it be Snake Lagoon

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Breakneck River beach?

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Well done Tony, Snake Lagoon it is.

Looking South East, towards Cape de Coudie

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Bit of a strange answer there?

Snake Lagoon is about 1km inland and is the start point for this walk - but it leaves the lagoon and goes on to Rocky River - so I would have thought this shot would be called Rocky River mouth?

After some more searching Eggs is probably right I am happy for Eggs to have the next turn.

Tony

Don't be silly.
I wasn't even going to try giving an answer just yet - I was just a bit curious about the answer given.

But that was the name of the place where the walk starts and Maelgwn gave you the baton - your turn

Eggs is right and I didn't really think about it much. The beach is not named on my map and when we were walking there we just refereed to it as Snake Lagoon (mainly as the walk is called the Snake Lagoon Hike or something).

As much as I would like to keep it local (so I have a chance of guessing!), its your turn Tony.

Thanks Eggs.

This one is in NSW, the mountain in the back ground is the give away, name the ridge that I am standing on and the name of the huts.

Fifteen Mile Spur Hut. No idea what the ridge is called, maybe Tooma River area in the Jagungal Wilderness.

Hi Michael,

Fifteen Mile Spur is correct I just put ridge in as I knew it would be easy, the Huts are usually called Linesmans no3 Hut but sometimes called Fifteen Mile or Emu Plain Hut.

Your turn.

Thanks Tony. The multiple names did confuse me which did make it hard to work out the exact location so I just guessed.

I am busy today so someone else can have a turn if they wish. If no one is interested I will post a photo later.

jeepers. That's pretty generic SA landscape.

I wonder if it is somewhere in Morialta? Eggs will nail it. :)

Looks very arid. Is it somewhere in the Flinders Ranges?

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Yes - I remember that view well.
A glorious mountain in the middle of the Gammons.

This should be looking at Cleft Peak south (there are 2 tops to Cleft - South is the higher one) and the shot is taken near the top of the north peak looking across the "cleft"
Every approach to these tops are over rocky ridges - and they are situated in the middle of a big amphitheatre of mountains and ridges - views all around.

for a few more views see http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2526&p=38635&hilit=gammons#p24431

Well done eggs, you nailed it. I suspect we weren't quite at the top of North Peak when the photo was taken but I can't remember, certainly we must have been quite close.

Photohiker: Yes it is very South Australia but it is given away by the scale of the cliffs. Red cliffs are numerous but ones this large are not quite so numerous.

JohnW: Yes - Far Northern Flinders Ranges - In the Gammons

Better vary the states a bit.
This game tends to group those from various states so there is a prospect of being on the outer while others play.

See how long this lasts from the NT:

Its a Gorge somewhere but appears to be the entrance to it. Thinking of named Gorges - Glen Helen? to go with Kings Canyon earlier?

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Tue 22 Mar, 2011 2:53 pm

It is a gorge - it is the majority of the gorge - not the entrance.
Not Glen Helen

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Tue 22 Mar, 2011 3:08 pm

Hmm. Doesn't look like the Finke Gorge. Is it Trephina Gorge?

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Tue 22 Mar, 2011 3:12 pm

Yes it is Trephina Gorge - in the East MacDonnell Ranges

I have actually posted this photo on a different thread before.
There is a track that runs along the top of the gorge and then loops back through it - and it was with photos from the cliff top track that I patched together this panorama.

Nice spot it is too. Google shows a lot of snakes for any gorges in NT

This one is in SA again. Are NZ shots allowable here BTW?

Where am I standing to take the shot?

I think you are on Old Bullock Track, near Beaumont. Looks like Waterfall Gully and Greenhill Rd infront of you.

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Tue 22 Mar, 2011 3:53 pm

You're in Cleland Conservation Park, maybe at the end of western end of Long Ridge Track, that's Greenhill Road on the hill the other side

Re: Game: Where-is-it (Aussie)

Tue 22 Mar, 2011 4:48 pm

Maelgwn: Close. You're just one hill to the left...

Jez_au: Yes. Right at the very western end of Long Ridge Track. Chambers Gully below and Greenhill road visible on the facing hillside.

Over to you.
