Well done, it is Blue Lake, the photo is from the western side which is not the side that most view Blue Lake.
Your turn Anne.

Hi Anne,
I was hoping someone else would have a guess, but I will have a guess. I think it is called the Viking.

Well done...I have a better picture of this, but it is at work.

Thanks Anne,
I have not walked in the Victorian Alps, maybe one day.
This photo was taken in NSW, the question is where am I.

Hi NNW,
It is one of those mountains, which one.
Sun 27 Mar, 2011 8:49 pm
I am off to bed so I will hand it over to you north-north-west, I am standing on Mt Northcote.
Anne,
The mountain behind my back in the distance is Carruthers peak.

Wow, I actually got one right. Hmm, this will be interesting. I'll have to nominate Luvverboy as a proxy 'cause I'm about to go to bed. Victoria. Just name the nearest peak. For a bonus point, how near is it?
By the way, Tony - and I hope you don't take this amiss - you look amazingly like Bob Brown in that photo.

Mt Howitt on the right from about 2 km away?
I think it is the Cross Cut Saw on the left off that peak.
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 7:27 am
Sorry Eggs that is not the answer I have been given.
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 8:35 am
I wanna say Mount Speculation but I am far from convinced.
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 9:00 am
Mt Magdala?
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 9:18 am
Neither of those match my magic words.
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 10:00 am
Maybe you were given Big Hill?
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 10:11 am
I wish I hadnt deleted the msg she sent me now. Im starting to wonder if I am right (I have no idea about these Aus Mtns) as no that wasnt the words I was given.
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 10:13 am
Well I guess we could work backwards - King Billy?
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 10:15 am
Yes! That's correct. Phew.......
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 10:26 am
Well this is a learning exercise - fascinating country.
And I was misreading the question - she wanted the nearest peak to her camp - not the nearest peak in view.
I wonder if she was camped out towards Picture Point?
Anyway - next one - from Victoria

That's the arch down in the Point Nepean NP. Nice little walk it can be, too.
For the record, it was King Billy 1 (there are two of them, a nice little ridgetop section of the AAWT), and the camp was on a ledge just below the main ridge, perhaps a couple of hundred metres from the summit. A brilliant view, if a trifle windy that night. It was interesting seeing the answers creeping closer and closer, from Spec to Magdala . . .
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 1:29 pm
I will give it to you NNW - because I reckon there would only be one arch down there.
It appears to be just on the edge of Point Nepean and Mornington Pen NPs - with the nod given to Mornington Pen according to the Parks Vic site
Its called London Bridge - which is curious as there used to be another London Bridge in Vic.
Mon 28 Mar, 2011 1:36 pm
That's right, I knew it had an official name, but couldn't for the life of me drag it out of my drug-addled brain. I tend to lump Mornington Pen & Pt Nepean into one big park. Actually, I think they officially are these days, but with the former name rather than the latter . . . And the other London Bridge was out on the Great Ocean Rd, until it collapsed some years back, stranding a bunch of people on the other side.
Right, let's see what I can dredge up. I really should do this on the other system, it has a much wider range. I'll stick with Victoria for now:

Curses, I found one matching image that labeled this London Bridge, all other references showed a completely different formation (which collapsed apparently) so I assumed the other one was an error
