I think there are other higher cliffs - but the issue that the record focused on was the vertical bit.
Very much 90 degrees.
However - it was probably an old copy of the book - now out of date. I notice Wiki goes to Baffin Island for the highest/most vertical.

Anyway - anyone else like to post next?

Do they rate the famed Trango Towers in the same list? I thought the Pakistan location allowed for a two kilometre base jump?

Years ago I attended a presentation by Dr Glenn Singleman about his BASEClimb adventure to do just that. Fascinating man, I think we have the doco on DVD somewhere.

It is La Tournette. I climbed it in mid June last year which was probably a little early in the season as it was still very icy and snow covered. Fantastic day hike though.

Thanks MSRJ, the scenery looks spectacular. We visited parts of Europe many years ago on a very touristy trip, including France, but not this area in my recollection. If we ever return I'd like to explore much further and do some walking.

Back to the USA, since I have little else unless I can scan some old photos. I'm at the junction of two trails, facing north-ish, name the one I'm on (ahead).

Yes that's it Graham. At the junction with Tonto West trail (as implied by the signage) which is part of the long distance hike through the canyon, about 260km/10 days I think. I was returning from Plateau Point in the distance and turned around here to see where I'd been. Between 900 and 1000 m to climb back up to the canyon rim from this plateau, which is still well above the Colorado River.

This one is in NZ and should be pretty easy. It needs to be because I am heading away for four days tomorrow.

Yes - Lady Knox Geyser at Waiotapu park. They said it began as a hole in the ground, but when some guys did some washing there it erupted.
Since then, people put soap into the hole and wait a while - then it erupts.
And each time more rock is deposited to make the structure bigger.
Very convenient if you have bus loads of people wanting to see a working geyser.

Not sure if Wayno will pick this one up - so feel free to go next.

Thanks eggs. We went to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland a couple of years ago and it was one of my favorite places in NZ. Amazing place.

I haven't got any more photos so I'm happy for Wayno to take the next shot.

Correct msrj, we were travelling south through the park en route to the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole and pulled in here to have a look, not far from the geothermal Norris Geyser Basin.
