No, sorry, not from the top...
Remember my clue? "Along similar lines"...
Mon 29 Jun, 2009 10:46 pm
I think he is about the same spot as the last one, but looking west instead.
The angle on Sutton's Tarn suggests he is only part way up the side (or in line with Weindorfers - hence my suggestion)
Mon 29 Jun, 2009 10:48 pm
Or maybe on that rock I can see a bit further down . . .

The first for the game clue - two images from about the same spot. I might be a tad lower, hard to tell but is close based on pics taken before and after this one.
Hence "along similar lines".
I found it when I was digging out clues to the last photo from scavenger.
Uncropped -
Over to you eggs.

Neat.

I suspect that over time there will be a lot of repeat locations with different viewing directions.
Once again - I apologise for the picture quality - it is from a 23 year old slide - the wife and me this time
Conditions in the photo may have changed since then
1 clue - this is not a walk
enjoy

That valley would make a nice Hydo lake
How about from Mt. Murchison?
Mon 29 Jun, 2009 11:19 pm
You're in the right part of the state. But it was not a walk.
And the major change (if any) will be in the roads, this view would not have any hydro lakes in it.

Yeah I knew I was wrong as a few seconds after I posted, still looks like a good spot for a lake thouugh!
No idea really. Is that the Henty River? So far as I can tell you are looking west(ish), there's a decent river not far away down a steep slope and it isn't damed. I wouldn't have thought it was west of the Murchison through to Tyndall area cause they would stand out in the foreground - could be wrong though, maybe that's the Tydalls we're looking at. The road (your possie) is obviously up pretty high and you can see other roads/tracks across the river on the plateauish area, so not far west either. If a new road is in the shot then it'd have to be the Anthony Road or the Zeehan to Strahn one wouldn't it? Only places I can think of need walking so it must be time for bed. I should be able to get it but can't.

I guess you could be on top of Mt Read - I can see Eldon Bluff in the distance, you're looking east / maybe south east.
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 9:07 am
Trembling he says - yes you are right swifty [the next answer is moonlight ridge - right??

]
This is the view east from Mt Read - with the peaks from Eldon Bluff to the edge of Mt Ossa on the horizon.
There are communication towers on top and a reasonable road there. However the gate is often locked at the bottom.

So what river is that? I pondered Mt. Reid but I couldn't find a river to the east of it

this one taken just a few weeks ago...

Ahh it must be a road - not a river afterall!

That does look like it's taken from moonlight flat just near bullfrog tarn just to the left of hill1 there is a little peak like that one (looks a tad like fedders)
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 10:03 am

Of course it's Moonlight Ridge, ILUV, as promised
Looking south across to the Hippo, Mt La Perouse in cloud and under snow behind.

yes the white track along the valley is a 4WD road - which connects with the tracks you can see on the hills behind.
The west coast is a curious place - it has hundred year old history buried in the wild forests.
There are bare platforms and scrubby areas which once boasted towns of 10,000 people.
So you can get really wild and craggy places, but get access along old railway lines or more recent exploration 4WD tracks.
The reason I thought this scene may have changed is not only due to the new Anthony Road from Rosebury/Tullah through to Queenstown
(good for access to Mt Tyndall & Mt Murchison), but also because there are 1 or 2 new mine sites in that area now.

Ok... see if you can spot this one

Are you on the track approaching the hut on the track to Lake Belcher in Mt Field Nat PArk?
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 11:47 am
Yerp - Lk Belcher track it is.
Kinda looking up towards K-Col (which is well clouded over).
Some day I'd like to find a way down to Lk Belcher from K-Col or Lk Belton from Florentine Pk
The Belcher hut is a shocker (and in need of some serious TLC)... on the weekend I was there it was sooo cold (impossible to get the pot-belly stove to do much good, as there were so many gaps in the floor and walls). I ended up pitching my tent inside... which had snow settled around the edges the following morning

This game is becoming a wealth of information and some new photo angles which help with my "planning" (ie dreaming)
Anyway - the next one - sorry about the jet.
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 11:52 am
so your go eggs... especially since you got the previous one as well (before it was even posted!).
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 12:03 pm
Nik
that must have been a crossed post - of which there have been quite a few.
As for the previous one - swifty had promised dee_legg it would be Moonlight Ridge - and then he delivered

Looks like on the way to Mt. Emmett, or at least near to that area;
maybe just at the top of the Lake Rodway track?
I have been out to Emmett so it definitely looks familiar.
Lake Rodway below.
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 12:20 pm
Pretty much on the mark
We went a little way towards Mt Emmett from the track out of Lake Rodway where it first hits the ridge line.
This gave a better view of the back of Cradle.
your turn stubowling
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 12:27 pm
Thanks eggs.
This one should not be too hard?
A splendid view of a lot of wild country I've yet to explore
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 12:45 pm
bathurst harbour or port davey.... from Western Arthurs?
thought I'd not try to get too specific before finding out if I was actually in the right ball-park or not
Tue 30 Jun, 2009 12:57 pm
You will be right about Port Davey - its not Bathurst Harbour
And I reckon you're right about WA - just need to work out which peak, or maybe its from the track?
