Must be on the summit of Waewaetorea Island, in the bay of Islands then!
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

Makarora River valley. Appears to not be from a Track?
But a little north of the Makarora Gorge - near the tree line?
Maybe a range traverse? [Ka Tiritiri O Te Moana]

Pretty darn spot on. I was ascending the ridge south of the Makarora Gorge, to get to a canyoning stream.

Sorry eggs. As a long time supporter of this version of the game I somehow lost track of this one. Seems to be very few players now.
Anyway here's a somewhat unusual one. I'm on a walk with plenty of flora and fauna, albeit not exactly a bushwalk.
I did kayak this river for several kms the following morning, NZ:

You've only narrowed it down to NZ, however I think it's in Christchurch

That's probably true. Yes, you've narrowed it down to the correct city, but where?

I may have stumbled onto the connection :). My search suggests Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin.

Thank you Greg. Yes it's great to be travelling again, WA, SA, outback NSW in April, QLD in May, nothing OS planned as yet.
We actually encountered some Americans in the city last week asking for directions.
Haven't had that experience in a long time . With that thought in mind, USA:

Good work, getting there. I'm looking for the name of the dormant volcano in the distance.

Not Mauna Loa. It's still active, erupted last November. I'm on a different island with a large dormant volcano.
