Griffins Farm - Are there still wombats?

Mon 13 Dec, 2021 2:20 pm

Hi everyone.

I saw that Griffins Fire Trail has reopened. I was wondering if anyone had been recently and knows if there are still wombats that live around the Griffins Farm campsite? I have been able to see wombats every time I have camped there, but haven't been able to return to the campsite since the fires in late 2019.

I am hoping they haven't moved on (or worse :( ) because of the fires, as their presence makes the trip there worthwhile. I would be super grateful for any information, thanks.

Heh bush_walker_123456,
I was down there in Dec and camped overnight.
Unfortunately, I didn't see any of the local wombat population. (This was distressing because they are always there!)
NP's had bulldozed all the fallen, burnt trees off to the sides of the flat.
You can see what I'm talking about in this photo.
This made it hard to get down to the creek, and this is where a lot of the wombats had their burrows.
Hoping they survive and flourish, the area was very green after all the rain.
Hoping they will return in their own good time! :)

Thanks so much for the picture Melinda, good to hear that everything is coming back green. Hopefully I can visit this campground again soon.
