Access to Currockbilly Mountain

Mon 28 Mar, 2022 6:58 am

Hi,
Grateful for some local intel.

I have been wanting to hike Currockbilly Mountain in in the Budawang Range.

I used the following route and drove down to the area, however when I was near the start of the hike a local indicated that this hike is on private land therefore i had to turnaround and come back home. Just wondering if anyone has any intel on a path to hike this mountain that is on public land? Many thanks casey

The website is correct but ownership of the private property may have changed since it was published.

Check with the Ulladulla or Braidwood office of the NPWS. Let us know how you go.

As you can see from the cadastral information on the map the access from Charleys Forest Road to the park is along a narrow piece of land. It is fenced on both sides and provides access to several properties as well as the park. I have used this access over many years with no problems. If it looks like a road and smells like a road ..... It would be worthwhile knowing where this 'local' actually lives, why he thinks he owns this strip of land and what the property owners serviced by this road think about his ownership.

Walked this about 6 months ago. There’s a thin section of land fenced either side. Park your car at the end. Just past here the bush starts and there’s an old sign. Easy nav to the top with the first part on and off a fire trail. We circled around to make it more interesting. If you do that there is no track past the summit but it’s relatively easy going through an open steep slope. Just after the summit there’s a nice spot on the east drop off for lunch

Thanks for the report and photos. I also have had this on my list for a while as I do not live that far away. Did you drive in the way shown in this linkhttp://mntviews.blogspot.com/2015/0 ... ralia.html

or some other way. That would probably be the most helpful information to have. Apparently, Caseyell19 had to turn around after driving all the way there.

Definitely we used the same route as the first poster has attached.
On there map is shown a locked gate on the access road. It’s not locked. They are correct for car parking spot
