Water at 1st wannon campstie

Postby RossageRoll » Sat 31 Oct, 2015 7:36 pm

Hi folks,

Has anyone recently been/have any sweet inside knowledge regarding availability of potable water at 1st wannon campsite on the major mitchell plateau?

thinking that it might be ok ish tho it was a pretty warm october.

I'm planning on walking it this long weekend and would appreciate any insight into the amount of h2o i will need to lug up there

Thanks!

I can't answer the availability of H2O at 1st Wannon but rest assured there is no potable water anywhere in the bush it must be boiled, filtered or treated to be safe to drink.

I have that hike on my list to do in April 2016 .That hike is water carry hike. Assume no running water will be found .

An update for anyone interested: we stayed at 1st Wannon this weekend and there was a bit of water but not much. It was definitely stagnant, but with our sleeves as a filter and aquatabs it was fine. However I can't imagine it'll last much longer; if they don't get some really good rain up there it'll likely be dry soon.
