Harrietville to Falls Creek

I'm looking to do this walk (or the reverse) in late March/early April and I'm wondering the best way to do it? At the moment I'm thinking going up bungalow spur, past Feathertop, along diamantina spur, past Blair hut and the sticking on the aawt for most of the rest of the way. However, I'm not sure of the best spots to camp along the way or the actual best route to take.

Any suggestions?

On the Razorback, I think you are only supposed to camp near Federations hut (dw it's sheltered).

You are not allowed to camp on the Hotham Resort area (not at Diamantina or the one in the east ?Blair?).

Most of the AAWT is pretty easy walking, but keep an eye on the weather forecast before leaving.
I personally would use mountain-forecast.com for Mt Feathertop and go by that for wind and temperatures. If SHtF then plan to escape via Pretty Valley.

How many day do u want to spend
. Camping is fine at Feathertop, Blair's Hut, Dibbins Hut you could cut across to Twonga Huts (spelling?)

While it is in the AR I have never heard of anyone being stopped from camping at or near Charles Derrick hut.
The main problem with camping along the Razor back is the lack of water, there are several nice campsites that are hidden away. I actually prefer to spend the extra day and go Feathertop- Loch carpark then AWT to Falls Creek but the walk down Diamantina was easy enough the last time I did it, haven't been there since the fires tho

Federation Hut would b the logical first nights camp after the slog up Bungalow. It's a short but steep day down Diamantina, could make for a camp at Dibbins Hut, or on the tops at Youngs Hut. Would be an easy day from there to Cope Hut or Wallace Hut, and from there, could finish the day walking the AAWT towards Mt Nelse, but cutting down Heathy Spur, or could camp at one of the two huts below the Nelses.

You wont have any problem finding anywhere to camp here. Almost anywhere is scenic, although Wallace Hut is very touristy. Last time I was there, it was quite busy with tourists, and would spoil the tranquility of it all. Although at Cope Hut, the tent platforms don't really do anything to help with that either.

One scenic option is to walk down High Plains Creek to the bend starting at 215118. Another way is east from the Youngs Hut turnoff, pole 287, and down to the bend, There's good camping on the upstream side of the bend, and waterfalls lower down. Exit north to the aqueduct. Mt Cope is good for a night, approached via Ryders Huts, water from the aqueduct below Cope. There's good camping at Rocky Knobs, Marms Point in the trees back from the creek, and Heathy Spur.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little...

I'm doing a circuit on the weekend, Mt Loch Carpark - Dibbins Hut or Blair Hut - Diamantina Spur - Fed Hut/Feathertop - Razorback.
I've been down Swindlers Spur before and know it's a lovely walk but was wondering how Machinery Spur compares? Not sure which route we'll take yet. Also, how does Blair Hut compare to Dibbins as a spot to camp?

Regarding the original question: Last Easter we camped at Wallace Hut. It was busy with day-trippers when we arrived but we had the place to ourselves overnight. It is a nice spot.

Thanks for all the replies...I'm thinking that I'll go federation hut, dibbins, cope hut, maybe wallace and then on to Falls Creek. Should be a good walk I think!

Due to the month and altitude the weather will generally be mild; certainly not the heatwaves of a few months ago. I've had snow in April. Whilst snow is probably unlikely you should have gear for cold conditions. Camping in a sheltered spot under trees out of the wind above a valley floor is much warmer than elsewhere. Mornings will probably be a bit cool.
