Navigational skilled/open trails?

Postby darcysaurus » Sun 20 Dec, 2015 8:53 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum - Hello!

I've been on quite a few hiking adventures in Victoria now and just wanted to know of any specific trails that may suit my partner and I.

We are looking for a half day (or a bit longer) hiking trail where we can set up camp about midway. Looking for a trail that may require some navigational skills and isolated. For example - following a river bed or valley for some of the hike (we did this in Lerderderg National Park which was really fun). My partner does not liking hiking through thick vegetation and wants to go somewhere where it is open. We want the hike to be somewhat leisurely but have challenging parts as well.

I know I am being quite specific but the trail doesn't have to fit all these criteria's.

I have looked a bit online but only seem to find info from the Vic National Park websites. I have read only a few personal Vlogs which I enjoy the most as they capture every detail of the hike and some tips along the way as well.

I will keep looking through the forum and read more of the hikes people have adventured which I am enjoying so far!

Thank you for any help - will be much appreciated!

Set up camp at Tawonga Huts near Pretty Valley ( Falls Creek area). Then bush bash it across the Ni**er H**ds over to Salt camp creek. We did it recently. It was not too tough but the compass and map were handy.

Darcy

Welcome to the forum.

There's quite a few places that may suit you. Can you please advise where you live and how far you are prepared to travel for the trip? Also, how many days away are you looking for. Most people are prepared to travel further for longer trips.

You mention a "half day (or a bit longer) hiking trail". Do you mean that the entire pack carrying would be a day? Most bushwalkers will avoid heavy scrub.
