Thread revival!
...... Is anyone able to speak of the current conditions up on Bogong at the moment? Just wondering if anyone here has been up there recently and checked things out. Thanks

I haven't been there but it will be typical spring conditions. I can see there is still plenty of good cover with a bit more forecast from Friday (maybe rain to start). Warmer days this week will see some melt and the overnight temps are not low but that will change by the end of the week and it will freeze overnight and soften during the day with sun. Still worth a trip.

Definitely!
Thanks for the help

Figured it would be good to check with people here to see if they'd had a look at it recently.

A couple of people came back yesterday and said conditions are still good. They were skiing out of Cleve Cole but I would suggest you review after Friday as there now seems to be only rain forecast and no snow until Saturday. The rain will be huge and will do some damage to the cover and the snow is not really big enough to repair it. Much depends on what you are after and how much cover you would like, also when you are planning to go. There will still be snow around.

You can get an idea of conditions by looking at the Hotham and Falls ski reports. The depth and number of lifts will indicate what is happening. Snow making will have an impact, but they don't make snow everywhere. If it gets too warm and/or rains then overnight there could be a freeze, making it hard to grip. Crampons may be indicated. There's good potential for sliding on the top of Staircase and Eskdale. This is a bit unreal. Early September and the snow is going, at least for now.

Thanks Xplora and Lophophaps. The plan is to go up early Saturday morning, but I'm not really sure which way we're taking yet as I am not organising the trip. I think if it is possible to get the car to Camp Creek Gap then that might be the go, but we'll see how things go with that. If the road up looks iffy then I won't be risking it.
Looked at the forecast again, and it seems the rain is expected a bit later and will extend to Saturday now. Should make the walk up interesting, but it looks set to clear during the day though.
I might check out conditions at Hotham and Falls now.

I doubt there will be issues getting a car to Camp Creek gap on Saturday. Hope you have a good trip.

Cheers, it's encouraging to know that we'll most likely be able to get up there. I'm still recovering from a chronic chest lurgy, so the easier option is desirable

https://get.google.com/albumarchive/113 ... 4OLAwoKHJwHere are some pic.s from our trip up to the top of Mt. Bogong early in August 2016 . We had great weather and full snow cover. It was very icy and we had ice axes, self arrest ski poles, crampons and proper MSR snow shoes.

Woo! Thanks again for all the info, happy to say that there was snow for the last couple of hundred metres and that it wasn't too much of a chore getting up to the top. There was a bit of drizzle, and a whole bunch of mist, but it was pretty good weather for getting to the top of Bogong.
