It wasn't the $13 sites that was the problem, it's the ones that are $30 or more. I think most people are happy to pay something, just not the same as a powered caravan site... Govt still not getting it right...

The whole lot are the problem be it the jump from $17.50 to $47.00 for a camp at Eildon national park with no power but a flushing toilet and a shot shower or from $0.00 to $13.00 for a basic camp with a drop dunny and nothing else but it looks like there will be a review of value for money coming up.

Just reported in the Vic papers today that the Vic Govt has abolished the $13 NP camping fee for all those sites with no facilities.....this is apparenty now in place and the press release states that anyone who has paid a fee for these sites over Easter will get a refund. So some good news there and finally some sanity in all this.
This is the link to the Herald Sun article and much the same was also in my Age today.

It mentioned in the article some of the NPs that would be affected. Is there a list stating all the NPs?

Thread from the dead. Looking for dispersed bush camping options within a couple of hours of Melbourne. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you have water, nearly anywhere away from formal camping spots will do. Some places like Wilsons Prom and Buffalo have restrictions. Are you after places reached on foot or by car? Do you have any areas in mind, or directions?

I don't think that is correct, unfortunately. It appears that dispersed camping is only allowed in a few parks. Prefer walk in campsites and will have a 4 year old in tow. Within 2 hours of Point Cook

Generally state forests don't charge fees for the signed campsites and allow dispersed camping.
For example, I spent last night at Enfield State Park - the Surface Point camping ground had toilets (and toilet paper!) but no drinking water.
The Park Notes for each park include a map which will tell you what facilities that have.
Check out
http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/visit/book-your-stay for a list of the sites that do charge a fee.

Neds Gully at the Cathedral (near Buxton) is walk in across the Little River by footbridge but only 100 metres. It does stop through traffic and looks a very nice spot with Lyrebirds and Wallabies around.
