Mt Bogong over the Long Weekend

Hey guys,

Hope you're all doing well!

I'm heading to Mt Bogong over the long weekend and just wondering if anyone knows what the foot traffic is like around the north side of the mountain. Specifically Cleve Cole Hut, Michel hut, and mountain creek. I am expecting a few extra souls enjoying the outdoors, but will it be 'crowded' :?: :|

Take it easy!

It's hard to say exactly but there would be quite a few bodies at the Mountain Creek camp-site, beyond that, most people take one of the two spurs up so that thins numbers out a little. A lot of people simply check the huts out and move on too, especially during the day, later on people are often inclined to bunk down (sometimes people don't get in until really quite late too), either in the hut or pitching nearby. A lot of people summit and return, so Cleve Cole doesn't necessarily take the bulk of people going up. I recall a cup weekend a some years back when the track near Cleve Cole was quite busy as a walking club had organised to do some track maintenance, so you never really can tell. Number of cars down the bottom, weather and a peek in the intentions book are good gauges but obviously not until the day.

At least that's my reading of it all, hopefully this helps!

Thanks for the info, I have been there before at the start of spring and I only saw one other person for three days. We are camping so that gives us a few more options as to where we can sleep, I know Cleve Cole has quite a large field around it. Not too sure about Michels...

We were up on 20 ish Oct. I gather there were 5 at Cleve Cole then, 3 arriving after 10pm. There were 4 at Michell Hut, and 6 camping on Eskdale spur above tree line, and a pair came up the staircase. Not a holiday weekend, so prob quieter than you'll find.

There's no snow on the tops. Maybe you could post some piccies of Cairn Gully etc, for the late season skiers. It was great skiing when we were there.

Mitchels has got a fair amount of room, but not as much as Bivouac from memory. Add to that, above Mitchels at the treeline, its fairly open, but quite exposed as well.

If possible, you would be better to shoot for Cleve Cole, as it is very open, plus you have more options about a click down track towards the site of Maddisons Hut.
