Hi all.

Based on a recommendation in another thread a friend and I are planning a hike along part of the Grand Strzelecki Track sometime in mid November.
I am about half way through my prep however since this is a return to hiking trip I'm after some advice from anyone who has hiked this area.

The plan is to set off early Saturday morning, spend the day hiking, set up camp by late afternoon in time to explore the local vegetation. Then head off Sunday morning and hike back to the car/pick up point.
Any suggestions on what section would allow us some decent walking (test the skills) and time to explore? I note that the Macks creek section may be closed.

Cheers

Hi nlt82,

If you only have the one car and want a circuit I would start at the Tarra Bulga NP end rather than the Morwell NP end. The Morwell NP end is nice, however there are plenty of river crossings, plenty of leeches and you would have to back track on the Sunday as it is not a circuit. The Tarra Bulga NP is beautiful and there is heaps to discover including the suspension bridge over an awesome fern gully. I have hiked in that area but never actually camped so I am not sure about camping grounds but there should be all of the info you need here:

Also either take your own water or if you use creek water make sure you boil/treat it first.

Thanks for that.
Have done my initial planning from the GST website and their maps. Some good information and I will be in contact with that group in the coming days.
Would prefer a circuit however in a position to do a shuffle.

Enjoyed the waterfall pics of yours from that area (another thread). Excited to get walking now.

cheers
