Hi everyone, i did larapinta trail a couple of years ago and found the geology side of things awsome. im off to mt spec, viking over cup weekend and was hoping someone might have a book they could suggest about the geology of the alps. dont know if thats a stretch or not but would love it as a companion when im sitting next to a fire at mt spec....

If you have journal access just print out a stack of decent articles - or go to a large library and have a look.

Failing that, if you combine google amazon and booko you should be able to find a book to suit you.
I'm not sure how much geology jargon you are comfortable with so these might be too simple/complicated.

Not a rock nerd but am a fairly regular summer visitor to NSW Snowy Mtns region. Most of the books I have are more general but some do discuss the geology to a degree. I'll have a look when I get a chance. Just a plan B suggestion though, a DIY option may be to trawl what's of interest online and either print and take it with you or download to a portable device, e.g. eReader if you have one. For example this looked quite interesting from a historical perspective and covers the Vic alps (among other regions):

But there's a lot of other stuff online if no one comes up with a relevant book recommendation.

If you type in some keywords to Google Scholar you should find something. Alternatively, I would think that the minerals department have records of just about everything.

Diedre Slattery's book has a section on the geology.

Both Profs Alan White and Bruce Chappel wrote papers which included information based on field work in the Snowy Mountains but these may be too academic for what you want.

The Victorian DPI website has free geological reports available for download. Just find the region you are after and download. The reports are not really written in layman terms so may be a little too over the top depending on your background in geology.
