Cathedral Range

Postby bulldogboy » Wed 02 Apr, 2014 7:05 pm

Hi again,

Planning on taking the family to Cathedral Range early next week (first week of school holidays). Staying at Neds Gully campground for a night or two. How are conditions there at the moment? Hoping it is not packed. How difficult are Cathedral and Little Cathedral Peaks? I notice that Parks Vic give them both 'hard' ratings from Neds Saddle. Are there sections where you are literally rock climbing? Last year we did the short climb from Sugarloaf Saddle to Sugarloaf Peak and there was a section of climbing that my 12yo daughter found challenging. Feedback much appreciated!

The Cathedral is just a steep uphill climb that is nowhere near as challenging as the Sugarloaf end. I have not done little Cathedral so cannot comment on this. I would imagine the camping areas will be fairly popular over school holidays especially with the fantastic autumn weather we have been getting. Best time of the year imo. :)

Though Cathedral is a steepish walk, hard is a an overstatement IMO. No climbing needed. Little Cathedral tends to get less traffic as most people head south to Farmyard and make a circuit but it's a nice walk - they all are in Cathedrals. Easter is always very very busy so I imagine some of the crowding will spill into the school holidays.
