The only messy bit will be the growth down low along the river.
Just cross the river, pick your way through the scrub, being prepared to meander around a bit to make it easy going through.
Then climb the spine of the spur. Don't need GPS or compass for that one, although a map might be handy if you drop any distance below the crest of the spur.
If you find a pad on the spur, that's bonus, as long as you don't end up following wombats or deer off your intended route

Forgot to add - make the river is fordable before you leave home. Depending on rainfall, it may be a bit dodgy risking a crossing.
