Water at the Farmyard, Cathedral Ranges

We are planning to camp at the Farmyard for our first over-night hike as a family. Travelling light-weight will be crucial, so I was hoping to confirm whether the spring is running at the moment. I'm hoping with all this rain it is flowing. Does anyone know?

Zoe, welcome to the forum. I have not been there for a while, so others will have to give current advice. There's a few threads on this subject.

If in doubt, maybe carry water up the hill. Hardly light weight. Maybe find another area with flatter access and certain water. If you take that option, there's any number of places.

It's only an hours walk from Cook's Mill. I would carry what you need for the night, saves going back down to get more!

I was there on the weekend. The spring was flowing strongly about 50 metres down from the track intersection. We drank it untreated with no issues - it seemed to be straight out of the ground, naturally filtered.

It's only an hours walk from Cook's Mill. I would carry what you need for the night, saves going back down to get more!

It's only an hour if your taking the direct track up the middle to The Farmyard, if your doing the circuit either via North or South it's going to take a bit more than an hour to get to camp at The Farmyard. It's handy to know the spring is flowing well currently, thanks Drew.

Would have been cold in the Cathedrals last night. Apparently Healesville had snow at 200m!
