Tamboritha - Howitt Road conditions

Has anyone driven the Howitt Road recently (the past two weeks)?
There was a sign at the start of the gravel warning it was only suitable for high clearance 4wd due to past heavy rains and flooding.
I drove to Macfarlane Saddle on the weekend (20-21 November) and apart from very large potholes, Subarus and other AWDs would have managed it easily.
The Heyfield DELWP office is closed so I can't get any official notification.

I emailed Connor Wilson and he said he no longer works in that area. Ms. Sarah Noonan is the person to ask. I have been furnished with her e mail address. I will await a reply from her.

Here is the latest from P.V. . Direct from the regional authority for the said area:
"
We are currently advising that the Howitt, Tamboritha and Moroka Roads are suitable for 4WD and AWD vehicles with appropriate clearance and tyres due to variations in the surface from Bennison Lookout.

My advice would be to plan your trip around the weather and avoid driving on the road after significant rainfall as road surface conditions deteriorate pretty quick. There are a couple of boggy sections that require attention from the gate on.

Road maintenance works are planned when conditions allow, this could be some time yet.

If you have any further questions feel free to give me a call.

Cheers,

Parks Victoria
