In their fanaticism to ban rockclimbing in the Grampians, Parks Vic appear to have inadvertently prohibited the use of ones hands while bushwalking.

Vic Parks lost the plot a long time ago but yes this is a very disturbing trend that continues to worsen.

Madness on stilts. Soon only wheelchair friendly access routes will be permitted anywhere in Parks in Victoria.

Meanwhile the Timbertop school students in the Buller/ Howitt area scramble up King Spur and Helicopter spur every year in November.

It really makes you wonder why they are spending so much time and effort coming up with these confusing and near impossible to enforce rules.

Ah, one size fits all.
Don't like rock climbing, ban people doing anything that has the remote appearance of rock climbing.
Don't like people camping and leaving rubbish, ban all dispersed camping.
Laws and rules have to cater for the lowest common denominator, and it would seem parks want to have some rules to cover their behinds or whatever.

Rule No.1
Don't get caught.
You're only guilty if you're caught.

Glenn may have painted us into a corner by very publicly pointing out bushwalkers could legally scramble the same areas where climbers were being banned. Parks were never going to go the other way on the issue.

Still, it's tragic.

I like to see parks standing up to protect things, and at or even beyond their capacity. But wow this is getting a bit silly, seems education is really the only hope here? Which, if a chance of working, needs parks and others working together (rather than leaky plugs for needling loopholes)

Bit hard not to use your hands on some Grampians 'bushwalks'... Hollow Mountain for example ...

This has been posted on the ACAV Facebook. The restrictions seem to be being continuously strengthened far beyond anything proposed in the long public discussion on the new management plan.
